Kentucky Derby winner I’ll Have Another will stand his first season at Ocean Breeze Ranch for $10,000. His oldest American foals will be yearlings in 2021.

While Kentucky dominates the nation by stallion population and activity – according to The Jockey Club’s Report of Mares Bred, 196 stallions in the state covered 61.4 percent of mares in 2022 – Daily Racing Form statistics showed stallion activity in 39 other states. The leading sires by earnings in their respective jurisdictions, alphabetically by state, were:

◗ Alabama: Doc N Bubba G (Cross Creek Outfitters) topped four stallions in the state.

Into Mischief breaks own record again leading general sire list

Into Mischief claimed his fourth consecutive North American sire title in 2022.

Into Mischief claimed his fourth consecutive North American leading sire title in 2022 and again broke his own single-season earnings record while doing so.

Spendthrift Farm’s Into Mischief, now 18, amassed progeny earnings of $28,519,963 in 2022, according to Daily Racing Form statistics. That put him more than $7.5 million clear of his closest pursuer, Quality Road (Lane’s End). For the third straight year, Into Mischief set an earnings record, shattering his $25,001,235 from 2021.

Stakes-winning Oklahoma-bred She's All Wolfe will be bred to Flightline

She's All Wolfe returned $6.60 in winning the Oklahoma Classics Night Distaff on Friday at Remington Park.

She's All Wolfe, a top Oklahoma-bred mare who was recently retired, is scheduled to be bred to Flightline this coming season, according to her breeder and owner, Robert Zoellner.  

Flightline is the front-runner for 2022 Horse of the Year following an undefeated career that included a win in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic.  

She's All Wolfe won 10 of 29 starts and earned $755,260. She won six stakes, including the Shawnee at Churchill Downs. She is a 6-year-old by Magna Graduate.

Mind Control to stand stud in New York at Rockridge Farm

Mind Control, winner of the Grade 1 Cigar Mile on Dec. 3, will stand stud for an $8,500 fee at Rockridge Farm in 2023.

Mind Control, a three-time Grade 1 winner including a victory in the $750,000 Cigar Mile on Dec. 3 at Aqueduct in his final career start, will stand stud at Rockridge Farm in Hudson, N.Y. Mind Control will be under the management of Irish Hill Farm, Dutchess View Stallions, and Rockridge Stud.

He will serve stallion duty as the property of those three entities as well as Waldorf Farm, Red Oak Stable, and Madaket Stable, according to a press release.

Mind Control will stand for $8,500 live foal.

Indian Charlie's legacy carries on in his home state of California

Indian Charlie never stood in California, but four of his grandsons sired by Uncle Mo will be stallions in the state in 2023.

California-bred Indian Charlie stood his entire stud career outside of his home state, and it was a relatively brief career at that. The stallion died at age 16, following a battle with cancer. But Indian Charlie left a sizeable influence on the breed that is continuing to grow nationwide, including stretching back to the state of his birth.

Eight Rings among stallions new to California for 2023

American Pharoah winner Eight Rings is training toward his 3-year-old debut.

Eight Rings had a dynamic start to his racing career in the summer and fall of 2019, winning a maiden race in his debut at Del Mar and the Grade 1 American Pharoah Stakes at Santa Anita in his third outing.

As the most prominent new stallion in California in 2023, Eight Rings has a chance for a splashy beginning to his stud career as well.

By Empire Maker, Eight Rings will stand the 2023 breeding season at Tommy Town Thoroughbreds in Santa Ynez for a fee of $7,500, the highest price among a small number of new stallions in the state.

Multiple Grade 1 winner Life Is Good, who like Flightline is expected to be an Eclipse Award finalist in the older dirt male category, has taken up residence at WinStar Farm for an advertised fee of $100,000.

Mandaloun makes the cut as Juddmonte stallion

Mandaloun finishes second to Medina Spirit in the Kentucky Derby. He returns to competition on Sunday.

Mandaloun already holds a place in racing history after being promoted to victory in the 2021 Kentucky Derby. He will now look to build a legacy for a storied international Thoroughbred operation.

Mandaloun, by leading sire and emerging sire of sires Into Mischief, retires to Juddmonte Farm in Nicholasville, Ky., for the 2023 season. He is the first horse to move into Juddmonte’s Kentucky stallion barn in about six years, since champion Arrogate arrived there in fall 2017.
