Reports of Mares Bred due by August 1

The deadline for stallion managers to submit their Reports of Mares Bred to The Jockey Club for the 2013 breeding season is August 1.

Stallion managers who submit their reports by August 1 will be among the first to receive their Stallion Service Certificates.

Unbridled's Song, Grade 1 winner and prominent sire, dead at 20

Unbridled's Song stood his entire stud career at Taylor Made Stallions in Nicholasville, Ky., where he recently completed the breeding season.

Unbridled’s Song, a Grade 1 winner and one of the top commercial sires of his generation, was euthanized on Friday after a large mass was discovered in multiple sinus cavities and around his optic nerves, leading to a rapid decline in health. He was 20.

The horse had been admitted to Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Ky., on Thursday to undergo tests for symptoms of neurological issues that had developed earlier in the day.

First winner for My Pal Charlie comes at Evangeline Downs

Grade 2 winner My Pal Charlie’s first winner as a sire came on Thursday at Evangeline Downs, when My Charlie Ray won his debut race by disqualification.

The 2-year-old bay gelding finished a game second to the unofficial winner of the five furlong race, Mr. Drew, but he was bothered at the start by the winner and forced into other rivals, leading the stewards to place My Charlie Ray first.

Indiana stallion Unbridled Express represented by first winner

Unbridled Express, a Grade 1-placed winner and Indiana-based sire, was represented by his first winner Wednesday night when the 2-year-old filly Express Model scored at Indiana Downs.

Express Model, a gray or roan filly homebred by LTB Inc. and Hillerich Racing LLC, stalked the pace and drew off powerfully to win by 4 3/4 lengths. She covered five furlongs in 1:01.07 on a fast track. The filly had previously finished sixth in her career debut June 6 at Churchill Downs.

So You Think’s first foal at stud is a colt

So You Think earned $8.6 million in 23 starts.

So You Think, a world-travelling Group 1 winner, sired his first foal on July 25, when Soft Landing produced a colt at Bell View Park in Australia, Coolmore Stud reported on Twitter.

A New Zealand-bred son of High Chaparral, So You Think stands the Southern Hemisphere season at Coolmore’s Australian division in Jerry’s Plains, New South Wales, for an advertised fee of $60,605 ($66,000 Australian). He stands the Northern Hemisphere season at Coolmore’s Irish base in Co. Tipperary for $23,140 (17,500 Euros).
