Clarence Scharbauer Jr. has been adding to his highlight reel the past month. The man behind Alysheba celebrated his 88th birthday on July 6 with a stakes win at Lone Star Park. A few weeks earlier, he accounted for his first Churchill Downs stakes win in 25 years when homebred Fiftyshadesofgold romped in the $113,400 Debutante Stakes.

Mr. Prospector’s transfer from Aisco Farm in Florida to Claiborne Farm in Kentucky for the 1981 breeding season meant a sharp upgrade in the quality of broodmares to be covered by the sensational young son of Raise a Native.

Mr. Prospector had shown what he could do with mares with Kentucky-quality pedigrees through the accomplishments of Fappiano, Miswaki, Gold Beauty, and Eillo, among others, and buyers responded by digging into their bank accounts when his first Kentucky-conceived yearlings came on the market in 1983.

Uh Oh Bango to stand in California

Uh Oh Bango was hindered by a lack of pace in the San Antonio.

Multiple graded stakes winner Uh Oh Bango will enter stud for the 2014 season at E.A. Ranches in Ramona, Calif. A stud fee will be announced soon.

The 6-year-old Arizona-bred son of Top Hit won five of 20 career starts, earning $691,512. Winner of the Prairie Meadows Freshman Stakes as a juvenile, Uh Oh Bango earned Iowa's Horse of the Year honors for 2009. He also finished second in the Grade 3 Iroquois and Delta Jackpot – the latter by a neck – during his 2-year-old season.

British racetrack operator to honor Group 1 breeders

Jockey Club Racecourses, the operator of 15 major tracks in the United Kingdom, will award trophies to every breeder of a Group 1 winner at each of its properties going forward, Racing Post reports.

Previously, the group only honored the winning breeders of certain major races, but that will be expanded to every Group 1 race beginning July 12 with the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket.

Jockey Club Racecourses will also offer the breeder of each entry in a Group 1 race two complementary passes for the day’s card.

Latta becomes partner in Hidden Brook

Kevin Latta, a Texas-based construction company owner, has become a fractional partner in Hidden Brook Farm, acquiring his share of the Paris, Ky., operation from trainer Danny Vella.

Latta owns Latta Construction, a global company with offices in Baltimore, Md., and Irving, Texas, where he resides. He has been a longtime member of the Hidden Brook racehorse ownership group, and is a breeder as well.

First winner for Elusive Bluff scores at Delaware

Grade 3 winner and Louisiana-based freshman sire Elusive Bluff was represented by his first winner July 8 when Crash the Party broke through in his fourth career start, a maiden claiming event at Delaware Park.

Crash the Party led at every point of call under Abel Castellano Jr., completing five furlongs in 1:00.20. The gelding is trained by Randy Nunley for Nick Sanna Stables and Tracy L. Nunley.

Crash the Party is one of two winners out of the multiple stakes-winning My Mike mare My Brent's Diamond.

Fasliyev, European champion and sire, dead at 16

Racing Post in England has reported the death of 1999 European champion juvenile Fasliyev in Japan, citing a tweet from Kentucky-based breeder Dr. Naoya Yoshida.

Fasliyev, by Nureyev, was 16 and had been standing at Japan’s Yushun Stallion Company. Yoshida tweeted Tuesday that the horse “passed away due to severe diaphragmatic hernia last night in Japan.”

Bodemeister, a Grade 1 winner and dual classic runner-up, was named 2012 Virginia-bred Horse of the Year by the Virginia Thoroughbred Association.

First winner for Save Big Money scores in Iowa stakes

Mama’s Mad Money scored her first career win in the Iowa Stallion Futurity on July 5 at Prairie Meadows, becoming the first winner for Oklahoma freshman sire Save Big Money, a multiple stakes-placed winner.

The 2-year-old chestnut filly, owned by Big Sugar Racing and bred in Oklahoma by Center Hills Farm, covered 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:07.03 on a track rated fast. She had previously finished second by a neck in her debut in a five-furlong maiden special weight at the same track on June 22.
