Leroidesanimaux to stand in England

Champion Leroidesanimaux, seen here winning the 2005 Atto Mile, will continue his stud career in England.

Champion Leroidesanimaux, sire of Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom, will relocate overseas to stand at Lanwades Stud in Newmarket, England beginning in 2014.

The 13-year-old Candy Stripes horse most recently stood at HallMarc Stallions in Ocala, Fla. He will be available for inspection by breeders in England beginning in November, with a 2014 fee to be announced.

Dayjur, English champion and sire, dies at 26

Dayjur, an English champion who provided one of the most memorable moments in Breeders’ Cup history when runner-up in the 1990 Sprint, was euthanized Wednesday at Sheikh Hamdan al-Maktoum’s Shadwell Farm in Lexington, Ky., due to the infirmities of old age. The son of Danzig was 26.

“Dayjur was one great racehorse,” Shadwell vice president Rick Nichols said. “He gave Sheikh Hamdan, and all of us at Shadwell, many great thrills. He was the cornerstone of our stallion operation, and he was a wonderful horse to be around. He will be deeply missed.”

AQHA files appeal in cloning lawsuit

The American Quarter Horse Association filed a Notice of Appeal on Monday to begin the process to overturn an August 22 ruling requiring the breed organization to accept cloned horses.

The ruling upheld a jury’s decision on July 30 in favor of plaintiffs Jason Abraham and Gregg Veneklasen, who claimed the AQHA violated antitrust laws when it denied registration to at least eight cloned horses belonging to Abraham.

Grade 1 winner So Many Ways has been sold to Katsumi Yoshida’s Northern Farm of Hokkaido, Japan to begin a broodmare career, owner Maggi Moss announced on Monday.

The 3-year-old Sightseeing filly, who scored her biggest victory in the Grade 1 Spinaway Stakes last year at Saratoga Race Course, concluded her career with a victory in the Charles Town Oaks Saturday night. She retires with five wins from 10 career starts, including additional Grade 3 triumphs in the Schuylerville Stakes and Eight Belles Stakes, and $717,148 in earnings.

Spanish Steps sold to Saudi Arabia

Spanish Steps, sire of Breeders’ Cup Turf winner Little Mike, has been sold to continue his stud career in Saudi Arabia.

The 12-year-old Unbridled horse, a full brother to the late, prominent sire Unbridled’s Song, most recently stood at Lake Shore Farms in Scottsburg, Ind. The deal to send him overseas was brokered by Chad Schumer Bloodstock.

Animal Kingdom has first mares confirmed in foal

Six mares have been confirmed in foal to Kentucky Derby and Dubai World Cup winner Animal Kingdom, who is standing his first season at stud at Arrowfield Stud in New South Wales, Australia.

The 5-year-old Leroidesanimaux horse is standing the Southern Hemisphere season for an advertised fee of about $36,375 ($38,500 Australian). He will shuttle to stand the Northern Hemisphere season at Darley’s Jonabell Farm in Lexington, Ky., after that operation purchased an interest in him following his dominant Dubai World Cup victory.

Richland Hills sold, renamed

The former Richland Hills/Wafare Farm property in Midway, Ky., has been sold and re-named Endeavor Farm.

The property will be operated by M&T Equine Ventures, a partnership between Terry Nickell, who has been the farm manager at Richland Hills/Wafare for 21 years; and Mark Tsagalakis, who has been training on the southern California circuit for over 20 years and maintains a stable of homebreds.

Midwest stakes to be hit hard by new regulations

New regulations that will go into effect in 2014 will effectively reduce the number of stakes that qualify for black type in sale catalogs.

Roughly eight months into the new system implemented to award black type to non-listed stakes races in 2014 and beyond, statebred programs in the Midwest and Canada have emerged as those expected to lose the most.
