Dullahan retired due to tendon injury

Dullahan has not started since the Breeders’ Cup Turf in November.

Dullahan, a multiple Grade 1 winner and half brother to Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird, has been retired from racing due to a tendon injury.

The 4-year-old Even the Score colt will be shipped to WinStar Farm in Versailles, Ky., where he will rehab from his injury under the guidance of farm trainer Richard Budge. He will be available for inspection at the farm as stud plans are determined in the coming weeks.

Breeders' Cup weanlings of 2013 nomination deadline on Tuesday

Breeders of Thoroughbred foals have until midnight Tuesday, Oct. 15, to submit a $500 nomination fee to make weanlings of 2013 eligible for the Breeders’ Cup and its stakes program, the Breeders’ Cup said Monday.

The one-time fee will make the horse eligible for the Breeders’ Cup’s events for its lifetime.

Reckless Abandon retired to Darley’s Kildangan Stud

Reckless Abandon, a Group 1 winner in England and France, has been retired and will stand the 2014 breeding season at Darley’s Kildangan Stud in Co. Kildare, Ireland. A fee will be announced at a later date.

The 3-year-old Exchange Rate colt excelled at the sprint distances, going undefeated in his first five starts, a run which included victories in the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes and Group 2 Norfolk Stakes in England, and the Group 1 Prix Morny and Group 2 Prix Robert Papin in France.

Camelot, three-time classic winner, retired

Camelot won the English 2000 Guineas, the Epsom Derby, and the Irish Derby this year.

Camelot, whose quest to become the first English Triple Crown winner since 1970 was thwarted by three-quarters of a length, has been retired from racing after coming up lame Monday morning, according to his Coolmore Stud-affiliated owners.

The 4-year-old son of Montjeu will make his debut as a stallion in 2014, standing at Coolmore’s Irish base in Co. Tipperary, Ireland. He had been training toward a start in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Turf at Santa Anita Park on Nov. 2.

California stud McCann’s Mojave euthanized due to colic

ARCADIA, Calif. – The California stallion McCann’s Mojave, who won the 2007 Sunshine Millions Classic and seven other stakes, was euthanized Friday due to colic, according to owner Mike Willman.

Willman, the publicity director at Santa Anita, was the co-breeder and owner of McCann’s Mojave during a racing career that included 12 wins in 35 starts and earnings of $1,513,565. Willman bred McCann’s Mojave with Nikki Hunt.

Grade 1 winner Ultimate Eagle retired to stud

Ultimate Eagle, who won three graded stakes and earned over $540,000 on the racetrack, has been retired to stand at at Rick Taylor’s Special T Thoroughbreds in Temecula, Calif. A 2014 fee for the 5-year-old Mizzen Mast horse will be announced at a later date.

I Want Revenge marks Ben Walden's return to stallion business

I Want Revenge will return to the races in Saturday's Suburban Handicap at Belmont Park.

In the days leading up to the Keeneland September yearling sale, the Pauls Mill shed row was a popular destination for two reasons. First, the consignment of Ben Walden Jr. included a half-brother to Grade 1 winners Mine That Bird and Dullahan. Second, he was serving pizza.

While a relentless stream of interested parties and tire-kickers examined the high-profile Giant’s Causeway colt – a tall, strapping chestnut cast from the same mold as Dullahan – Walden was on the phone under what little shade the barn’s awning offered, answering questions about another horse.

Bind retired, to stand in Louisiana

Stakes-placed winner Bind has been retired from racing and will begin his stallion career at Jay Adcock’s Red River Farm in Coushatta, La., standing the 2014 breeding season for an advertised fee of $1,500.

The 5-year-old son of Pulpit grabbed the public’s attention after winning his debut start by 9 ½ lengths as a 3-year-old at Fair Grounds. He continued to race through his 5-year-old season, winning three of eight starts for earnings of $108,335. Earlier this year, he placed third in the Sam Houston Sprint Cup Stakes at Sam Houston Race Park.

Brethren, a Grade 3 winner and half-brother to Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver, has been retired and will begin his stud career next year at Journeyman Stud in Ocala, Fla.

Brethren, a Grade 3-winning half brother to Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver, has been retired from racing and will make his stallion debut in 2014 at Journeyman Stud in Ocala, Fla.

The 5-year-old son of Distorted Humor was a buzzed-about juvenile following Super Saver’s derby-winning campaign earlier in 2010, and Brethren finished that year undefeated in two starts. He began 2011 with a win in the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis Stakes, then finished third in the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby.
