Descendants of the late sire Mr. Prospector have been dominant at the Breeders' Cup.

Although the Kentucky Derby – and to a lesser extent the Preakness and Belmont – might enjoy more widespread popularity and recognition among the sporting public, the Breeders’ Cup represents the highest-quality racing on the North American continent each year. As such, it is both entirely predictable and entirely fitting that cumulative Breeders’ Cup results over its 29-year history reflect the distribution and evolution of major American and international sire lines.

Preakness winner Oxbow retired to Taylor Made

Preakness Stakes winner Oxbow will stand at Taylor Made Stallions in 2014.

Oxbow, winner of the 2013 Preakness Stakes, has been retired from racing and will begin his stallion career in 2014 at Taylor Made Stallions in Nicholasville, Ky., for an advertised fee of $20,000.

The 3-year-old son of Awesome Again retires with three wins from 13 career starts for earnings of $1,243,500 racing for Brad Kelley’s Calumet Farm and trainer D. Wayne Lukas. The colt sustained an ankle injury while finishing fourth in the Grade 1 Haskell Invitational July 28 at Monmouth Park in what proved to be his final career start.

Lone Star Special to California

Louisiana sire Lone Star Special will relocate to stand the 2014 breeding season at Special T Thoroughbreds in Temecula, Calif.

The 8-year-old Malabar Gold horse, owned by his breeder, Tigertail Ranch, will stand for a fee of $1,500 at Special T. He spent the 2013 season at Moon Lake Farm of Louisiana, standing for $1,000.

A two-time stakes winner in 2008 at Louisiana Downs, Lone Star Special retired with earnings of $105,320. He has sired one winner from three starters in his first crop, stakes-placed Chickasaw Bayou

Wildcat Heir leads Journeyman roster for 2014

Wildcat Heir will lead the stallion roster at Brent and Crystal Fernung’s Journeyman Stud in Ocala, Fla., for 2014, standing for a fee of $10,000, stands and nurses.

The 13-year-old son of Forest Wildcat is currently third on Florida’s general sire list. He stood for $8,000 in 2013.

Behind Wildcat Heir on the 13-stallion roster is Awesome of Course, sire of champion filly Awesome Feather. He will stand for $7,500.

Multiple graded stakes winner Prospective to Ocala Stud

Grade 2 winner Prospective, who was retired from racing in September, will begin his stallion career in 2014 at J. Michael O’Farrell Jr.’s Ocala Stud in Ocala, Fla.

The 4-year-old son of Malibu Moon finished his on-track career with seven wins in 17 starts for earnings of $719,130. His resume is highlighted by wins in the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby and the Grade 3 Grey Stakes and Ohio Derby.

A $250,000 purchase at the 2010 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga selected yearling sale, Prospective raced for owner John Oxley and trainer Mark Casse.

Overanalyze to stand at WinStar Farm

Overanalyze will try to give Todd Pletcher his third major stakes win for 3-year-olds since last weekend when he runs as the favorite in the West Virginia Derby.

Grade 1 winner Overanalyze, retired last month, will make his stallion debut in 2014 at WinStar Farm in Versailles, Ky., for an advertised fee of $10,000.

The 3-year-old son of Dixie Union is best known for his 4 ¼ length victory in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby that cemented his status on the 2013 Kentucky Derby trail. He was also among New York’s leading juveniles of 2012, winning the Grade 2 Remsen Stakes and Futurity Stakes.

Overanalyze retired with four wins in 11 career starts for earnings of $1,046,381. He raced for owner Mike Repole and trainer Todd Pletcher.

OwnerView launches “OwnerView Host” program

OwnerView, a joint initiative between The Jockey Club and Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association, has launched a new service called “OwnerView Host” to provide individual mentorship for new owners.

Information provided by OwnerView hosts will provide neutral, unbiased information during phone calls with new and prospective Thoroughbred owners to help acquaint them with the basics of owning a racehorse. Interested parties may sign up for the service via the OwnerView website.

Australian champion Atlantic Jewel likely to be retired with tendon injury

Once-beaten Australian champion Atlantic Jewel suffered a tendon injury Tuesday morning that is likely to lead to her retirement from racing.

The injury to the Fastnet Rock mare was detected after she galloped on Tuesday morning in preparation for Saturday’s Cox Plate, a race in which she would have been favored. Owner Coolmore announced instead that the mare will be scratched and is likely to visit the operation’s outstanding international sire Galileo early next year.

Cityscape to stand in England at Overbury Stud

Group 1 winner Cityscape, who won or placed in graded/group stakes in seven different countries, has been retired from racing and will stand at Overbury Stud in Gloucestershire, England for an advertised fee of $8,109 (5,000 British Pounds), Racing Post reports

The 7-year-old Selkirk horse was a leading miler in Europe, and earned his biggest career victory in the Group 1 Dubai Duty Free at Meydan in 2012. Also among his six wins from 23 starts were the Nayef Joel Stakes in England, the Prix Perth in France and the Solonaway Stakes in Ireland, all Group 3 races.
