Airdrie Stud’s Proud Citizen, Creative Cause to stand for $15,000

Airdrie Stud in Midway, Ky. has released the advertised fees for its 2014 stallion roster, led by Proud Citizen and Creative Cause, who will each stand for $15,000.

Proud Citizen, a 14-year-old son of Gone West, is the sire of seven crops of racing age. His best runners are led by champion Proud Spell, Kentucky Oaks winner Believe You Can, and Grade 2 winner Mark Valeski.

Three Chimneys releases 2014 stallion roster and fees

Three Chimneys Farm in Midway, Ky. has released its advertised stud fees for the 2014 breeding season.

Seven of Three Chimneys’ stallions will stand for a reduced rate in 2013, including the two that will command the highest fees: Exchange Rate and Sky Mesa, who will each stand for $20,000. Last year, Exchange Rate stood for $30,000, while Sky Mesa stood for $25,000.

Badge of Silver to Ontario’s Colebrook Farms Stallion Station

Grade 2 winner Badge of Silver will relocate to Colebrook Farms Stallion Station in Uxbridge, Ontario, for the 2014 breeding season and stand for an advertised fee of $7,500 Canadian (about $7,175).

The 13-year-old son of Silver Deputy previously stood at Airdrie Stud in Midway, Ky. He will stand at his new location in partnership between Colebrook Farms and the Badge of Silver Syndicate.

Hill ‘n’ Dale Farms in Lexington, Ky. has released the 2014 fees for its stallion roster.

The farm’s flagship stallion, Stormy Atlantic, will remain at an advertised fee of $30,000 for the 2013 season. The 19-year-old son of Storm Cat is the sire of 12 crops of racing age, led in 2013 by runners including Grade 1 and Canadian classic winner Up With the Birds and Grade/Group 2 winners Barbecue Eddie and Wired Bryan.

Thoroughbred Charities of America to hold stallion season auction

Thoroughbred Charities of America will hold its 24th annual stallion season auction from Jan. 2-4, featuring phone and online bidding, as well as a live auction.

The majority of the seasons will be offered during the phone and online bidding portion of the auction. Online bidding will open at 9 a.m. Eastern on Jan. 2 and continue through 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 4. Telephone bids will be accepted Jan. 2-3 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Jan. 4 from 9 a.m.–10 a.m. Interested bidders may register on the TCA website.

Shackleford to remain at $20,000 for 2014 at Darby Dan Farm

A minor illness kept Shackleford out of the Forego.

Darby Dan Farm in Lexington, Ky., released its advertised stud fees for the 2014 breeding season, which will remain largely unchanged from the previous season.

Leading the way for the farm will be second-year stallion Shackleford, whose fee will remain at $20,000. The 5-year-old son of Forestry was a three-time Grade 1 winner during his racing career, highlighted by the 2011 Preakness Stakes, and he is out of 2011 Broodmare of the Year Oatsee.

Frost Giant’s fee rises to $10,000 for 2014

Grade 1-winning sire Frost Giant will stand the 2014 breeding season for an advertised fee $10,000 at Keane Stud in Amenia, N.Y.

The 10-year-old son of Giant’s Causeway stood the previous season for a fee of $7,500. He set an earnings record for a first-crop sire in New York last year, and is currently the leading second-crop sire in the Empire State.

Frost Giant has sired two crops of racing age, led by stakes winners West Hills Giant, Frosty Bay, Kelli Got Frosty, and Grade 3-placed winner Giant Finish, who ran in the 2013 Kentucky Derby.

Juddmonte raises fees for First Defence, Mizzen Mast

Juddmonte announced that it will raise the fees of both its U.S.-based stallions, Grade 1 winners First Defence and Mizzen Mast, for 2014.

First Defence will stand for $15,000 in 2014, double his 2013 fee of $7,500. The 9-year-old Unbridled’s Song horse sired multiple Grade 1 winner Close Hatches from his first crop; the 3-year-old filly was recently second in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff.
