Geneticists have yet to come up with a scientific explanation of what makes a sire of sires. And while it may be tempting to view the phenomenon as a man-made construct with no genetic basis, that explanation, too, remains unconvincing, at least for the most extreme cases.

Some of New York racing’s biggest stars won’t be in action Saturday on Empire Showcase Day at Belmont Park, but the reason why is a nice problem for the state’s Thoroughbred industry to have.

New York-breds have had a phenomenally successful year racing against open company, and a handful of the program’s best are eyeing the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita on Oct. 31 and Nov. 1.

Tiz Wonderful, Any Given Saturday sold to Korea

Tiz Wonderful, who previously stood at Spendthift Farm, has been sold to Korea interests.

Stallions Tiz Wonderful and Any Given Saturday have been sold to Korean interests to stand in that country beginning in 2015.

Tiz Wonderful, a 10-year-old son of Tiznow previously stood at Spendthrift Farm in Lexington, Ky., where he was advertised for a fee of $7,500 during the 2014 breeding season. He debuted at stud in 2009.

"We received an offer that we thought was more than fair from the Korean Racing Authority, and acted on it," said Spendthrift Farm general manager Ned Toffey.

Grade 2 winner Revolutionary retired to WinStar

Revolutionary (left), winner the Grade 3 Pimlico Special, has been retired and will stand for $7,500 next season.

Revolutionary, winner of last year’s Grade 2 Louisiana Derby and this year’s Grade 3 Pimlico Special, has been retired from racing by owner WinStar Farm and will stand at the Versailles, Ky., farm in 2015 for an advertised fee of $7,500.

The 4-year-old son of War Pass will participate in WinStar’s “Dream Big” program, which offers breeders an opportunity to earn a lifetime breeding right in the stallion after their matings produce two live foals from his first books.

El Corredor sold to stand in Turkey

Grade 1 winner and sire El Corredor has been purchased by Tevfik Celikoglu of Turkey to stand in 2015.

The 17-year-old son of Mr. Greeley previously stood at the Stallion Station at Copper Crowne in Opelousas, La., where he stood the 2014 breeding season for $3,500.

Uncaptured to stand at Ocala Stud in Florida

Uncaptured, winning the Prince of Wales Stakes at Fort Erie, will not be pointed to the $500,000 Breeders' at Woodbine on Aug. 18.

Uncaptured, Canada’s 2012 Horse of the Year, will make his stallion debut during the 2015 season at Ocala Stud in Ocala, Fla. A stud fee will be announced at a later time.

The 4-year-old son of Lion Heart won 7 of 18 career starts for earnings of $1,065,147. He was named Canada’s champion 2-year-old and Horse of the Year during his juvenile campaign, in which he won the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes and Grade 3 Iroquois Stakes at Churchill Downs and the Swynford Stakes, Clarendon Stakes and Vandal Stakes at Woodbine.

Darby Dan Farm stud fees unchanged for 2015

There will be no changes in advertised stud fees for the stallion roster at Darby Dan Farm in Lexington, Ky., for the 2015 breeding season.

Preakness Stakes winner Shackleford will once again lead the way among the Darby Dan stallions with an advertised fee of $20,000. The 7-year-old son of Forestry is represented by his first crop of weanlings in 2014, and his first weanling to sell at auction brought $150,000 at the recent Fasig-Tipton Saratoga fall mixed sale.
