Generazio doubles up at Belmont

Too Discreet wins the Paradise Creek Stakes on Saturday.

New York-based owner-breeder Patricia Generazio had an outstanding Saturday at Belmont Park.

First, Too Discreet flashed his speed to win the $100,000 Paradise Creek Stakes. In the race immediately following, the promising Disco Partner returned from a long layoff to win an allowance. Both are New York-bred homebreds for Generazio, and they are trained by Christophe Clement and James Ryerson, respectively. In both cases, Generazio and her husband, Frank, bred and raced the colts’ dams and grandams.

Deep Impact goes 1-2-3 in Japanese Derby

Japanese Triple Crown winner Deep Impact pulled off another triple to further burnish his résumé as one of his nation’s leading sires. He not only sired his third Japanese Derby winner, he swept the trifecta in the classic, with his three representatives only narrowly separated at the wire. Makahiki held off Satono Diamond by a nose, with Dee Majesty another half-length back in third.

Sparkman: American breeders need to wise up on turf pedigrees

Si Sage is a clear winner of the Whittingham Stakes Sunday at Santa Anita, leading a 1-2 finish of French-bred runners in the 10-furlong grass stakes.

The sorry state of American turf racing was on full display in the Grade 2 Charles Whittingham Stakes at Santa Anita on May 29. Half of the 10-horse field were bred abroad, and French-bred Si Sage and Patentar finished first and second ahead of the best of the American finishers, Montego Bay.

Animal Kingdom, winning the 2013 Dubai World Cup, was the most successful offspring of Lesroidesanimaux.

Champion Leroidesanimaux, sire of versatile champion and classic winner Animal Kingdom, has died at Lanwades Stud in Newmarket, England, following complications from injuries suffered in a paddock accident earlier this year. The son of Candy Stripes was 16 in Northern Hemisphere time.

Ride On Curlin will debut at stud in 2017 at Pleasant Acres Stallions in Morriston, Fla.

Ride On Curlin, the 2014 Preakness Stakes runner-up, has been retired from racing and will debut at stud in 2017 at Pleasant Acres Stallions in Morriston, Fla.

A fee for Ride On Curlin, a 5-year-old son of Curlin, will be announced at a later time.

Ride On Curlin finished his career with 3 wins in 22 starts for earnings of $795,175.

Lone Curlin sells for $225k at F-T Midlantic

Two days after his son Exaggerator won the Preakness Stakes, sire Curlin reaped immediate benefits at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic juvenile sale. His lone offering, a colt, sold to George A. Mellon for $225,000 out of the consignment of bloodstock agent Bobby Dodd.

Exaggerator is the fourth classic winner or classic-placed runner from as many crops by Curlin, joining 2013 Belmont Stakes winner Palace Malice, 2014 Preakness runner-up Ride On Curlin, and 2015 Belmont third-place finisher Keen Ice.
