Marking will begin stud career in New Mexico

Marking completed his racing career with a runner-up finish in the Belmont Sprint Championship in July.

Marking, a Grade 1-placed runner, will debut at stud in 2017 at A & A Ranch in Anthony, N.M., for an advertised fee of $3,500.

The 4-year-old son of Bernardini won three of eight starts for earnings of $426,200 racing as a homebred for Sheikh Mohammed Al-Maktoum’s Godolphin operation and trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. He finished second in the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes in his third start, and finished his career with a runner-up effort by a head in the Grade 3 Belmont Sprint Championship Stakes in July.

Hyper sold to Tara Farms in Ontario

The Chad Brown-trained Hyper is among multiple contenders in the Grade 3 Kentucky Turf Cup.

Grade 2 winner Hyper will debut at stud at Tara Farms in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario, in 2017 after selling as a stallion prospect for $5,000 Thursday at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale.

The 9-year-old son of Victory Gallop won 10 of 29 starts over five seasons for $859,063.

Tourist retired, to stand for $12,500 at WinStar Farm

Tourist, the winner of this year’s Breeders’ Cup Mile, was confirmed to be retired by WinStar Farm on Thursday, and will debut at stud at the operation’s Versailles, Ky., farm for the 2017 breeding season for an advertised fee of $12,500.

Elliot Walden, WinStar Farm’s CEO, said Tourist was a probable candidate to enter stud in the moments immediately following his Breeders’ Cup win on Nov. 5, but that the final decision was to be made after meeting with the colt’s ownership group, which also included Adam Wachtel and Gary Barber.

Court Vision moves to Louisiana for 2017

Court Vision will stand in Louisiana for $3,500 in 2017.

Court Vision, the 2011 Breeders’ Cup Mile winner, has been relocated to Acadiana Equine at Copper Crowne in Opelousas, La., where he will stand as property of a partnership for an advertised fee of $3,500.

The 11-year-old son of Gulch previously resided at Spendthrift Farm, where he was advertised in 2016 for $5,000.

Big Brown's 2017 fee cut to $7,500

Big Brown's bid for the Triple Crown got off to a roaring start with his wins in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness.

Sunrise Stallions, which owns three New York-based stallions, announced Tuesday that the 2017 stud fee for Big Brown will be $7,500, down from $10,000 this year. Big Brown, by Boundary, is fourth on the general sire lists in New York this year with progeny earnings of $3.28 million. The sire of top older horse Dortmund stands at Dutchess View Farm in Pine Plains, N.Y.

Just a few days after Stuart Janney III announced that his homebred Ironicus was being retired to stand at Claiborne Farm in Kentucky, he announced that Ironicus’s half-brother Norumbega was being retired to stand at Bonita Farm in Darlington, Md., in 2017 for a fee of $3,000.

One of the highlights of the ongoing Keeneland November sale has been the nine-horse Phipps Stable reduction consignment, with Claiborne Farm as agent.

The fourth highest-priced mare of that group was Satisfaction, a winning half-sister by Awesome Again to Grade 1 winner Dancing Forever, by Rahy, who was purchased for $310,000 by Roger Long. But the reason that breeders value mares from Phipps families so highly was demonstrated yet again in Saturday’s Grade 3 Red Smith Handicap at Aqueduct, won by Bigger Picture, who shares his fourth dam, Lady Pitt, with Satisfaction.

Frankel's stud fee remains same in pounds, drops in dollars

Frankel will stand the 2017 breeding season for the same fee as in 2016, but due to the decline in the pound after the Brexit vote, breeders paying in U.S. dollars would be getting a 17.7 percent discount compared with this year.

Banstead Manor Stud in Newmarket, England, announced Frankel’s fee in 2017 will remain at 125,000 pounds, the same as his first four years at stud. In U.S. dollars, his fee is falling from $190,096 at the start of 2016 to $156,510 today.

Runhappy retired, will stand at Claiborne Farm

Runhappy's connections might be having second thoughts on their plan to transform him into a two-turn horse.

Runhappy, the champion sprinter of 2015, has been retired from racing and will debut at stud in 2017 at Claiborne Farm in Paris, Ky., for an advertised fee of $25,000.

A 4-year-old son of Super Saver, Runhappy finished his career with 7 wins in 10 starts for earnings of $1,496,250 racing for owner Jim McIngvale.
