Rainbow Heir to stand at Ocala Stud upon retirement

Rainbow Heir shot up the rail for his seventh career stakes win in Sunday's New Jersey Breeders Handicap at Monmouth Park.

Rainbow Heir, a Grade 3 winner and contender for this year’s Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint, will stand at Ocala Stud in Ocala, Fla., upon his retirement from racing.

The 7-year-old son of Wildcat Heir has won 12 of 29 career starts over five seasons of racing for earnings of $639,405. His victories include the Grade 3 Jersey Shore Stakes, two editions each of the Wolf Hill Stakes and New Jersey Breeders Handicap, and the Teddy Drone and Gin Rummy Champ stakes.

Harry's Holiday moves to Indiana

Harry’s Holiday, a Grade 3-placed runner, will relocate to Southern Indiana Equine in Austin, Ind., for the 2018 breeding season, where he will stand for an advertised fee of $3,000.

The 6-year-old son of Harlan’s Holiday debuted at stud in 2017, standing at Justice Farm in Lexington, Ky., for the same fee. He covered 28 mares in his first season.

Sparkman: Group 1 four-bagger pushes Galileo farther into stratosphere

Klarman, Lawrence, WinStar Farm honored with TOBA awards

Seth Klarman's Klaravich Stables and longtime partner William Lawrence were honored as the 2016 Owners of the Year, and WinStar Farm was named Breeders of the Year as the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association held its annual awards dinner Saturday at historic Calumet Farm.

The Klaravich team, which was named Southern Region Owner of the Year, earned the national award over fellow regional honorees Juddmonte Farms (Eastern), John Oxley (Midwest), and Spendthrift Farm (Western).

Grade 3 winner American Freedom retired to stud

American Freedom is pointing to the $1 million Haskell on July 31 at Monmouth Park.

Grade 3 winner American Freedom has been retired from racing and will begin his stallion career at Airdrie Stud in Midway, Ky., next year for an advertised fee of $10,000.

The 4-year-old son of Pulpit had three wins from eight starts for earnings of $705,100, including wins in the Grade 3 Iowa Derby at Prairie Meadows and the Sir Barton Stakes at Pimlico. He also finished second in last year’s Grade 1 Travers Stakes and Grade 1 Haskell Invitational.

Strong catalog for CTHS yearling and mixed sale

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – There is a strong chance that sale figures will be up at the CTHS yearling and mixed sale on Tuesday at the Thunderbird Show Park in Langley, British Columbia.

Not only is this the sale’s strongest catalog in years, but there is a major rule change that allows foreign-bred horses who go through the sale to run in the 2018 CTHS Sales Stakes at Hastings. Previously, the Sales Stakes were restricted to Canadian-breds.

Grade 1 winner Practical Joke will begin his stallion career at Ashford Stud in Versailles, Ky., during the 2018 breeding season, upon the conclusion of his racing campaign.

The 3-year-old son of Into Mischief most recently won the Grade 1 H. Allen Jerkins Stakes on Aug. 26 at Saratoga, and will likely make his next start in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Del Mar. Chad Brown trains Practical Joke for owners Klaravich Stables and William Lawrence.

For a state that produces only around 500 Thoroughbred foals per year, Oklahoma has produced its fair share of top racehorses. Racing Hall of Famer Lady’s Secret, who was Horse of the Year and champion older mare in 1986, earned $3,021,325, but is not the leading money-earning Oklahoma-bred. That honor belongs to Kip Deville, winner of the 2007 Breeders’ Cup Mile and three other Grade 1 races, who earned $3,103,197.
