With Catalina Cruiser, Lane's End continues to invest in sireline

The John Sadler-trained Catalina Cruiser will get a second shot in the Breeders’ Cup, this time over his home track.

Union Rags was an obvious young stallion prospect for Lane’s End Farm to invest in. Phyllis Wyeth’s homebred is a son of former farm stallion Dixie Union, and going another generation back, his grandsire, Dixieland Band, was one of the original three stallions at Lane’s End Farm when it was established.

Coolmore acquires breeding rights for key BC Juvenile contender Eight Rings

BC Juvenile contender Eight Rings is from the first crop of 2-year-olds sired by Empire Maker after he was repatriated from Japan.

The breeding rights to Grade 1 winner Eight Rings, who is among the favorites for next week's Breeders' Cup Juvenile, have been acquired by the international Coolmore group. The outfit plans to stand the colt at its Ashford Stud in Kentucky upon his eventual retirement.

Justify, Mendelssohn most active stallions for 2019

Triple Crown winner Justify and the globe-trotting Mendelssohn were the busiest stallions in North America in 2019 as they stood their first season at Coolmore’s Ashford Stud in Kentucky, The Jockey Club’s Report of Mares Bred revealed Thursday.

Mongolian Groom, winner of the Awesome Again Stakes, is being pointed to the Breeders' Cup Classic.

Mongolian Groom punched his ticket to the Breeders’ Cup Classic with his victory in the Grade 1 Awesome Again Stakes in September at Santa Anita, prompting his connections to supplement him to the race. He also punched a ticket home to Kentucky for his sire, Hightail, who has found stakes success from a limited sample size and now returns from several seasons in Arkansas to Calumet Farm for the 2020 season.

Catalina Cruiser will head home to stand at Lane's End Farm upon retirement

Catalina Cruiser is being considered for the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile and Breeders' Cup Sprint.

Catalina Cruiser, who is bound for a start at next week's Breeders' Cup, will stand alongside his sire at Lane's End Farm upon his eventual retirement.

Catalina Cruiser is by Lane's End sire Union Rags, and that is not his only connection to his future home. The 5-year-old is out of a mare by Mineshaft, a Lane's End homebred champion by its legendary sire A.P. Indy. Catalina Cruiser was bred in Kentucky by Lane's End's W.S. Farish, and was a $370,000 Keeneland September yearling. He races in the colors of Hronis Racing.

Wayne O won a maiden special weight on Saturday at Keeneland as the third choice in a large field of 12 2-year-olds, taking several new owners along for the ride as part of the MyRacehorse.com club investment. The nascent company seeks even greater heights in the coming weeks as it holds a stake in Breeders’ Cup contenders Street Band and Lazy Daisy.

Flameaway retired to stand at Darby Dan Farm

Flameaway is scheduled to make his next start in the Ohio Derby on June 23 at Thistledown.

Flameaway, a versatile multiple graded stakes winner, has been retired and will enter stud at Darby Dan Farm in Kentucky. The 4-year-old son of Scat Daddy will stand for $7,500.

An Ontario-bred trained throughout his career by Mark Casse for John Oxley, Flameaway retires with a record of 6-3-1 from 18 starts and earnings just shy of a million, at $911,634. After winning his debut on a synthetic track, he won a pair of off-the-turf stakes as a juvenile, taking the Grade 3 Bourbon Stakes at Keeneland and the Skidmore Stakes at Saratoga.

Constitution's stud fee spikes to $40,000 at WinStar

Breakout freshman sire Constitution will see his fee more than double to $40,000 for the 2020 season at WinStar Farm.

Constitution stood for $15,000 in 2019 at WinStar, which welcomes a pair of newcomers for next season in Audible and Yoshida, and welcomes home Take Charge Indy. The Kentucky farm’s roster is led by stalwart sires More Than Ready at $80,000, Speightstown at $70,000, and Distorted Humor at $50,000.
