Trippi to stand in Florida

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Grade 1 winner Trippi has been purchased by a group of Florida-based investors headed by Joe O'Farrell's Ocala Stud and will enter stud there rather than at Kentucky's Vinery at 2002.

According to Dogwood principal Cot Campbell, Vinery had an option to purchase a 25 percent interest in the 4-year-old End Sweep colt when he retired in August.

"On reviewing the situation last week," Campbell said, "we mutually agreed that the horse was better suited for Florida. I then contacted Ocala Stud."

Vinery representatives were not available for comment.

Average price steady in trying time

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Seemingly undaunted by economic downturn and national disaster, the 13-day Keeneland September yearling sale continued at a steady pace over the weekend, ringing up $200 million in gross revenues for the third consecutive year on Saturday.

Through Sunday, the last session for which complete figures were available, the 2001 September sale was running behind in gross revenue - a product of its smaller catalog this year - but the average and median prices were both up.

Roar colt makes noise at Keeneland

LEXINGTON, Ky. ? The Keeneland September yearling sale's select market, which produced a sale-topping $6.4 million Storm Cat colt on Wednesday, had receded into memory by Saturday. But even though the top prices have fallen off since the select sessions ended Wednesday, there was still some money on the table in the open market.

A $425,000 Roar colt was the most expensive lot at the yearling sale's fifth session, thanks to the continued presence of a regular buyer from the select sessions, Prince Ahmed bin Salman's The Thoroughbred Corp.

Maria's Mon colt tops Day Four

LEXINGTON, Ky. - A $575,000 Maria's Mon colt was the day's top price Friday as Keeneland's September yearling sale continued the fourth of its 13 sessions with sharp declines in average and gross.
