Aqueduct pick six play for Saturday, March 4, 2023

Pirate Rick moves back to six furlongs for Saturday's Grade 3 Tom Fool Handicap at Aqueduct.

RACE 5: JALEN JOURNEY ships in from out of town with competitive Beyers and upgrade potential after racing off the pace in a race lacking speed in his latest. OPTIC WAY didn't run to his best Beyers in his return from the layoff, but he did move prematurely. He makes his first start off the Rudy Rodriguez claim, as does Advanced Strategy. PICASSO is back in for a tag after a couple of allowance tries off the layoff; back Beyers fit nicely. ADVANCED STRATEGY has steady figures and a solid closing kick.

Hopper returned from a seven-month layoff to finish second by a length to Newgrange in the 1 1/8-mile San Pasqual. The race should set him up for a top performance in the Santa Anita Handicap.

Can’t complain about this Saturday of racing, with 16 graded stakes carded coast to coast.

Blazing Sevens has a better chance than you think to upset Forte in the Fountain of Youth. Eyeing Clover is the most likely Gotham winner. Plucky, athletic Balnikhov can win the Kilroe Mile. But those are secondary opinions.

Santa Anita Handicap

Nine in this robust renewal of the Big Cap carry between 119 and 124 pounds, which demonstrates the competitve nature of this historic 1 1/4-mile race.
