The second leg of the Triple Crown and as usual three legs of Weekend GamePlan plays. The big race of the day comes on dirt, but we’re seeking an all-turf coast-to-coast triple.

Granting that Atone can bounce back after a dismal run in the Muniz Memorial (the trainer said he came out of the race sick), I still don’t like the horse at anything close to the listed price, 9-5, which seems about right.

Maiden was expected to be forwardly placed in turf mile but bobbled, lost position, steadied slightly first turn, dropped to second half of field, then made minor rally. Older gelding is better than this indicates.

It’s a steep drop from Derby Day to the week after Derby Day, with just five graded stakes, four of them Grade 3s, carded throughout North America. I wanted to get involved in the Grade 1 Man o’ War, top race of the weekend, but couldn’t get past Warren Point, a likely underlay for Godolphin, Charlie Appleby, and Frankie Dettori.
