Incredibolt, a late addition to the field, immediately was tabbed a serious contender by two morning-line makers for Saturday’s 151st Preakness Stakes at Laurel Park.
It has been a pattern that has worked well for trainer Chad Brown. A horse runs in the Wood Memorial, skips the Kentucky Derby, and wins the Preakness.
Cloud Computing did it in 2017. Early Voting again in 2022. Saturday, Brown will attempt the hat trick with Iron Honor, though circumstances are not necessarily similar.
Cloud Computing had a pair of two-turn races, one a runner-up finish in the Gotham which that year was run at 1 1/16 miles over the now-defunct inner track, before running third, beaten seven lengths in the Wood Memorial.
The ever-changing Preakness field lost a top contender on Monday when Silent Tactic was ruled out of the race by trainer Mark Casse.
Silent Tactic, runner-up to Renegade in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby, was scratched from the Kentucky Derby due to a bruised left front foot. Casse had hoped he was making progress but when he removed the full pad that Silent Tactic had been training in and put on a regular shoe, Casse was not happy with how the horse was moving.
ARCADIA, Calif. - With wins in the final race at Santa Anita on Saturday and the first race on Sunday, trainer Michael McCarthy started a pair of 3-year-old fillies poised for appearances in the leading races for the division in Southern California in coming months.
On Saturday, Marjoram won her first stakes in her third start in the Grade 3 Senorita Stakes at about 6 1/2 furlongs on the hillside turf course. She closed from last of 10 to win by a head, her second victory in three starts.
If My Miss Mo wants to snap her three-race losing streak, she will have to do so from the far outside post in the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes at Laurel Park on Friday. The Saffie Joseph Jr. trainee drew the 10 post and will have her work cut out for her in the 1 1/8-mile race.
The popular Winnipeg track Assiniboia Downs kicks of its 2026 racing season on Tuesday, the opening day of a 50-day meet that runs until Oct. 7.
Racing will be conducted on a Tuesday/Wednesday evening schedule, for the most part. There will be Monday racing on June 1, June 22, July 13, Aug. 3, Aug. 24, and Sept. 14. Post time for all programs is 7:30 p.m. Central.
As usual, the highlight of the meet is the $125,000 Manitoba Derby on Aug. 3. The 1 1/8-mile contest for 3-year-olds was won by Attack last year following the disqualification of favored Take Charge Tom.
ARCADIA, Calif. - The nine-race Mother’s Day program at Santa Anita on Sunday will start with a carryover of $43,628 in the $2 pick six.
A win by Marjoram in Saturday’s ninth race, the Grade 3 Senorita Stakes, clinched the carryover. Marjoram paid $9.20 in a field of 10.
Sunday’s pick six covers the fourth through ninth races on a nine-race program that begins at 1 p.m. Pacific.
The pick six races have fields of 5, 7, 7, 8, 7 and 11. The ninth race is the $100,000 Siren Lure Stakes at six furlongs on turf for older horses, the featured race of the day.
Believing it would be “too much too soon,” trainer Bob Baffert on Friday said that undefeated 3-year-old Crude Velocity would skip the Preakness Stakes on May 16 at Laurel Park and likely point to the Grade 1 Woody Stephens on June 6 at Saratoga.
Baffert announced his decision Friday morning on the “At the Races” radio show hosted by Steve Byk.
