Prat's seven wins (six consecutive) on single Belmont at Big A card sets NYRA record

Adam Coglianese
Jockey Flavien Prat had 10 mounts on the 11-race card at Aqueduct, finishing with seven wins, three seconds.

Flavien Prat won seven races on Sunday’s card on the final day of the Belmont at the Big A meet, establishing a New York Racing Association record for wins by a jockey on a single card.

Nineteen jockeys had won six races on a card - Ramon Dominguez did it three times - and there had been 25 occasions on which that happened. Prat won six consecutive races on the card, making him the seventh rider to do that.

Barbara D. Livingston
Forever Young, shown Sunday morning with Yoshito Yahagi, earned a 111 Beyer Speed Figure for Saturday's win in the Breeders' Cup Classic.

DEL MAR, Calif. - Admittedly hung over, behind dark sunglasses, wearing a wide-brim hat with Torrey Pines emblazoned on it and a Shohei Ohtani T-shirt, Yoshito Yahagi could have been mistaken for any jubilant Los Angeles Dodgers fan early Sunday morning.

Except the Ohtani shirt was underneath a red jacket with “Forever Young” stitched on it and Yahagi was addressing a gaggle of media the morning after the Japan-based and -bred Forever Young won the $7 million Breeders’ Cup Classic at Del Mar.

Bentornato, shown with Jose D'Angelo, was given a 110 Beyer Speed Figure for the victory in the Breeders' Cup Sprint on Saturday.

DEL MAR, Calif. - Despite getting an extra hour’s sleep the night before, trainer Jose D’Angelo still sounded a bit drained from the emotions of the previous afternoon when he returned to his barn early Sunday morning to check on his two Breeders’ Cup winners, Bentornato and Shisospicy.

“It was such an amazing day, so exciting, but there was also so much pressure that goes along with it just getting these horses here,” D’Angelo said. “We were supposed to go out to a party last night to celebrate. Instead, we were so tired, we just stayed in and ate dinner at the hotel.”

Jockey John Velazquez was aboard Ted Noffey for trainer Todd Pletcher in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile.

DEL MAR, Calif. – Last December, when he attended the Global Symposium on Racing in Arizona, trainer Todd Pletcher remembers telling fellow Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert that he was light on 3-year-olds for the 2025 spring classics.

Pletcher proved prophetic as he missed his first Kentucky Derby in 21 years and ran longshots in both the Preakness and Belmont Stakes.

“Definitely, the cupboard was pretty bare this time last year,” Pletcher said.
