Susie Raisher
Tiz the Law went six furlongs Friday in 1:12.26 over Belmont's main track.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Tiz the Law, one of the top contenders for the Nov. 7 Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland, arrived at Keeneland on Sunday from New York and was out for an easy jog early Monday with trainer Barclay Tagg alongside on his stable pony.

“Everything is good,” said Tagg. “He’ll probably breeze Friday or Saturday and we’ll go from there.”

Tagg said he and Heather Smullen, the exercise rider for Tiz the Law, drove down from New York, pulling into Keeneland about two hours before the colt arrived following a long van ride.

Bodexpress possible for Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile

Ryan Thompson/Coglianese Photos
Bodexpress is being considered for the BC Dirt Mile after this explosive performance Saturday at Gulfstream Park West, where he came within .01 of a second of the 1 1/16-mile track record.

MIAMI – The Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile is now under consideration for Bodexpress following his near record-setting performance in Saturday’s allowance feature at Gulfstream Park West.

Bodexpress led throughout while cruising to a one-sided 11 1/4-length tally as the 2-5 favorite here Saturday, his final time of 1:42.53 just .01 slower than Mr. Jordan’s 1 1/16-mile course record set nearly two years earlier. Bodexpress would have likely broken the mark had jockey Emisael Jaramillo not eased up on him some through the final 40 yards with the outcome no longer in doubt.

Get Her Number to miss Breeders' Cup Juvenile

Emily Shields
Get Her Number earned a fees-paid berth in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile with Saturday's win.

ARCADIA, Calif. - Get Her Number, the winner of the Grade 1 American Pharoah Stakes at Santa Anita on Sept. 26, will miss the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Keeneland on Nov. 6 because of a minor injury, trainer Peter Miller said Sunday.

“He’s got a little bit of bone bruising and we’ll back off on him,” Miller said. “He won’t run again until next year.”

Maximum Security stands out in fog as he trains for BC Classic

Benoit photo
Maximum Security's next step to the Breeders' Cup Classic could be the Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont or the Awesome Again at Santa Anita, trainer Bob Baffert said Sunday.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Fog enveloped much of Santa Anita for a good part of Sunday morning's training, but more than enough of the track could be seen around 6:30, when it was clear Maximum Security is training strongly for his upcoming start in the $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic at Keeneland.

Maximum Security is most often, at best, an indifferent work horse, but he was a willing and eager worker Sunday, putting away his company with ease while completing a five-furlong drill in 59.80 seconds, after which he galloped-out an additional furlong.

Venetian Harbor (left) paid $5.20 with the victory in the Raven Run Stakes at Keeneland on Saturday.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – It had been more than eight months since Venetian Harbor had won a race, but the Munnings filly had at least three good excuses – Swiss Skydiver, Speech, and Gamine.

Given relief from facing the very best of her division, Venetian Harbor was dominant Saturday, holding sway after leading all the way under Manny Franco in capturing the Grade 2, $200,000 Raven Run Stakes at spectator-free Keeneland.

“They say the track’s been pretty heavy, but he still got his last eighth in 11 and 2,” said Hernandez. “He’s as good as ever, from what I can tell.”

Bell's the One, Pessin coming into Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint under the radar

Emily Shields
Bell's the One outfinishes Serengeti Empress to win the Derby City Distaff on Sept. 5 at Churchill Downs.

LEXINGTON, Ky. – What’s in a name? Neil Pessin knows, at least as it pertains to himself.

“This filly deserves more respect than what she gets,” Pessin said of his stable star Bell’s the One, “and if she was trained by somebody else, she’d probably get it.”

Secret Keeper, right, put in a solid effort in the Torrey Pines against Harvest Moon, who subsequently won the Grade 2 Zenyatta.

Saturday’s best racing might be over by the time you fire up your computer for the North American afternoon cards.

This is QIPCO British Champions Day, the made-to-compete-with-the-Breeders’ Cup year-end program consisting of five stakes at Ascot Racecourse, four Group 1’s and a Group 2. Of course, the ground is somewhere between soft and very soft for this important day of racing, which has become standard for the event.
