Strut the Stage follows steps of Chief Bearhart

Mark Frostad knows something about taking a horse out of cool weather in Canada to run in a warm climate in the Breeders' Cup Turf. It was seven years ago that Chief Bearhart, trained by Frostad, won the Turf as the favorite at Hollywood Park, overcoming the commonly held belief that cold-weather horses are at a disadvantage when making such a move.

Trainer figures $135,000 is cash well-spent

Mr O'Brien, whose latest victory led his owners to pay $135,000 to supplement him to the Breeders' Cup Mile, is among the shipment of horses scheduled to arrive Sunday at Lone Star Park after a charter flight from New York.

"He's going to work Saturday at Pimlico," said Robin Graham, who trains Mr O'Brien for the Skeedattle Stable syndicate. "Then we'll put him on a van early Sunday to catch his flight from New York."

Film Maker deserves another shot

Film Maker will be one of the longshots on the tote board when she goes postward in the Filly and Mare Turf on Breeders' Cup Day. But her trainer, Graham Motion, thinks she has just about as good a chance as any of the other U.S.-based horses pre-entered for the race.

A well-rested Culinary looks to topple favorites

The last horse to win the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies who had run in the Arlington-Washington Lassie was Caressing. She returned $96 to win.

Culinary may not be as big a price as Caressing, but she may be just as live a play for those looking to beat the favorites in the $1 million Juvenile Fillies on Oct. 30 at Lone Star Park.

Culinary, a daughter of El Amante, has won both of her career starts for trainer Michael Stidham and owner Jack Smith. She will come into the Juvenile Fillies with six weeks between starts, but Stidham said that is by design.

The 3-year-old Hollywood Story, unraced since July, was a surprise pre-entry.

Race decision still pending for Ouija Board

The fact that Ouija Board's connections have given first preference to the Breeders' Cup Turf is good news for the other 13 horses pre-entered for the Filly and Mare Turf. The bad news is that the connections of Ouija Board will keep their options open for both races and not make a decision on where to run the 3-year-old filly until Breeders' Cup entries are taken at Lone Star Park on Wednesday.

This year it's quality instead of quantity

The field for this year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile may not be very big, but trainer Bob Baffert thinks it's very good.

"I think it's one of the toughest Breeders' Cup Juveniles we've seen in a long time," said Baffert, who trains probable favorite Roman Ruler, one of just eight 2-year-olds pre-entered for the $1.5 million Juvenile to be run Oct. 30 at Lone Star Park.

Flint has confidence in 'Model'

Bernie Flint is tired of hearing about all the trouble Sense of Style had in the Alcibiades. He believes it takes away from the race his filly Runway Model ran in winning that race by a head three weeks ago at Keeneland.

"The best horse won is the way I look at it," Flint said.
