Dreaming of Anna wires

Dreaming of Anna, with Rene Douglas up, wins the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies at Churchill Downs on Saturday.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Outspoken owner Frank Calabrese is rarely at a loss for words. But immediately after winning the $2 million with Dreaming of Anna, a filly he named after his late sister, Anna Andersen, he was left speechless.

So were observers, who witnessed Dreaming of Anna, a Rahy filly, cap a 4-for-4 season with an emphatic 1 1/2-length victory over Octave in the Juvenile Fillies. Her victory virtually assures she will be voted North America's champion 2-year-old filly.

Little separates these young fillies

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Since the Breeders' Cup began in 1984, favorites have won 12 of the 22 runnings of the Juvenile Fillies. It will be tough for that mark to swell to 13 this year - irrespective of who is the favorite, Cash Included or Dreaming of Anna.

Saturday's field is among the most wide open in the race's history, with 14 evenly matched fillies entered, led by Oak Leaf winner Cash Included, the 3-1 favorite on the track morning line, and the unbeaten Dreaming of Anna, who has been made the 5-2 choice by Mike Watchmaker, Daily Racing Form's national handicapper.
