Emoticon Legacy stamped himself as the top sophomore trotter in North America with another powerhouse performance on Saturday night, capturing the Grade 1 C$615,000 Canadian Trotting Classic at Woodbine Mohawk Park in a stakes, track and Canadian record 1:49 4/5 mile. Louis Roy guided the son of Walner to the biggest win of the campaign. Roy left the gate strongly with Emoticon Legacy but was beaten to the first turn by both Happy Jack B with Ake Svanstedt and Go Ahead Makemyday with Jason Bartlett in the bike. Bartlett took a hole, and Roy drove Emoticon Legacy to get control through a snappy 25 4/5 opening quarter. Emoticon Legacy rated the half in 54 3/5 and kept the pace lively going into the final turn. Second choice Maryland made a move for Dexter Dunn on the turn to try to get close to the odds-on Emoticon Legacy, but Roy was not interested in a head-to-head duel. ► Sign up for our FREE DRF Harness Digest Newsletter Emoticon Legacy shifted gears, trotting three-quarters in 1:22 1/5 and sprinted away from his rival, with Roy confidently guiding him through a 27 3/5 final quarter to complete the record mile.
