OCEANPORT, N.J. – The Friday feature at Monmouth Park could be the end of the line for Winiliscious. A former $7,500 claimer, Winiliscious was not a factor in her two starts this year, both in Monmouth stakes. The 5-year-old drops into a third-level allowance, where it is time to put up or head off to the broodmare ranks. “It could be her last race,” said Chuck Spina, who trains Winiliscious for Top Shelf Stable. “Her last two races have not been good. No matter what happens, it’s been a heck of a ride.” Third-level allowances don’t fill that often at Monmouth Park due to competition in the region from overnight and graded stakes. The one-mile-and-70-yard race for fillies and mares drew a field of seven, with Winiliscious breaking from the rail. The purse is $46,000 with an option for $50,000 claimers. Rebecca’s Surprise and Mass Invasion are the entrants in for the tag. It’s a strong, stakes-tested field. Triple Arch will be one the favorites following a rallying second here most recently on the grass in the Grade 3 Eatontown Stakes. This will be her Monmouth dirt debut, and she will have Orlando Bocachica aboard for trainer Marcus Vitali. The hot horse in the race is Rebecca’s Surprise, up from Parx Racing for trainer Michael Moore. A recent $25,000 claim, the 4-year-old Rebecca’s Surprise has won three straight, earning 90 and 91 Beyer Speed Figures in the last two victories. Crazy About Me makes her second start for the Todd Pletcher stable. She is 2 for 2 at Monmouth and needs a stronger effort after finishing up the track in the Dashing Beauty overnight stakes in the slop at Delaware Park. Leading trainer Jorge Navarro sends out Call Pat, a second-level allowance winner last time. Brenda’s Way completes the field. Last year, Winiliscious would have been a key player in this spot. She was second in the Monmouth Beach Stakes and a distant fourth in the Grade 2 Molly Pitcher. Spina claimed her in May 2012 and she rewarded the new connections with seven wins and several competitive stakes efforts. The owners planned to retire her after this season. That farewell could come sooner than later if Winiliscious doesn’t show more Friday. She has run in two overnight stakes at the meet, losing by a combined 46 3/4 lengths. “It’s been a good run,” Spina said. This race determines if the run continues.
