The two 870-yard allowance races at Los Alamitos on Saturday evening’s eight-race program are comprised solely of Thoroughbreds. The races drew no Quarter Horses. The fourth race is restricted to horses who have not won at 870 yards. Six of the eight runners are veterans of the Southern California daytime Thoroughbred circuit. The sixth race is restricted to nonwinners of two races and drew six Thoroughbreds, five with experience on the daytime circuit. The fourth race is the 870-yard debut of Biddy Duke, a filly by Bayern who won at Del Mar last summer and twice at the Los Alamitos daytime Thoroughbred meeting in September and December. Trained by Andrew Lerner, Biddy Duke was second in a starter allowance with a $40,000 claiming option at six furlongs on March 15 at Santa Anita, leading to the final sixteenth. Aaron Gryder, who has not ridden at the Los Alamitos evening meeting this year, has the mount. Gryder does not have any other rides on the program, which begins at 6 p.m. Pacific. :: To stay up to date, follow us on: Facebook | Instagram | Twitter Biddy Duke must hold off a late threat from Outlaw, a 5-year-old gelding who won an allowance race at six furlongs at Golden Gate Fields in September. In his lone start this year, Outlaw was sixth in a $32,000 claimer at 5 1/2 furlongs on turf at Santa Anita in January. Outlaw is trained by Vann Belvoir, who has won with 5 of 10 runners at the Los Alamitos evening meeting this year. The 5-year-old mare Grey Tsunami and 4-year-old filly Truth Prevails may have an experience advantage in the sixth race, which includes two males. Grey Tsunami, trained by Martine Bellocq, won an 870-yard race for maidens on Feb. 9 and was a troubled fourth, beaten 1 1/2 lengths, in an allowance race at the distance on Feb. 21. Grey Tsunami was checked with three furlongs remaining and closed well to miss third by a neck. Grey Tsunami is winless in seven starts in maiden claimers on the daytime Thoroughbred circuit, but has better form at 870 yards. Truth Prevails, trained by Chuck Treece, won a maiden race at 870 yards by four lengths as the 1-2 favorite on March 15, her second start of the year. Ramon Guce rode Grey Tsunami and Truth Prevails in their last starts and has the mount on Truth Prevails on Saturday.
