German breeder Christoph Berglar has purchased Stonereath Farm in Paris, Ky., the Racing Post reported Tuesday. Until late last year, Berglar operated Union-Gestut in Eitorf-Merten but then restructured his operation and moved his mares to Gestut Schlenderhan in Germany and Haras de Bonneval in France. Now, according to a report in Germany’s Turf Times, he plans to keep some of his broodmares at Schlenderhan but will relocate a number from France to Kentucky. Berglar’s son Peter will manage the Kentucky farm, and Ronald Rauscher, who oversaw Union-Gestut for him, will serve as an advisor to the American operation. The mares are expected to arrive in the U.S. in September, and Berglar told Turf Times he also intends to buy mares and foals in America. Darrell and Lendy Brown owned the 100-acre nursery, which also is the resting place of 1982 Broodmare of the Year Best in Show, dam of that year’s Kentucky Oaks winner, Blush With Pride.
