Juveniles breaking from the rail can be a risky proposition and heavily favored Runnin Out of Days came close to burning a lot of money when he got off to a poor start leaving from the inside post in the $50,000 Washington Cup Juvenile Colt and Geldings at Emerald Downs on Sunday. Chalk players also needed help from the Emerald stewards, who moved Runnin Out of Days up to first after he lost a stretch-long duel to Chuckanut Bay in the 6 1/2-furlong dash. Chuckanut Bay was relegated to runner-up despite finishing first. Runnin Out of Days paid $2.40 despite finishing a neck behind Chuckanut Bay, who under leading rider Alex Cruz bumped Runnin Out of Days a couple of times inside the sixteenth pole in a thrilling stretch drive. With Juan Gutierrez aboard, Runnin Out of Days broke last before he rushed up from along the rail to engage Chuckanut Bay and Gold Rush Junior through a quarter-mile in 22.30 seconds. He was a half-length behind Chuckanut Bay at the half-mile call and, when they turned for home, they were in a race by themselves with Chuckanut Bay getting the edge at the wire. It was another 13 lengths back to Withee in third. :: DRF Bets members get FREE DRF Past Performances - Formulator or Classic. Join now! The final time was 1:16.27.
