Stephen’s Answer remains unbeaten at Delta Downs after winning his fourth race at the meet last month, and he could see more stakes action at the track before the season wraps. The $70,000 Owner Appreciation Cup on Feb. 29 is on the horse’s radar. The one-mile stakes wraps up the season at Delta. Stephen’s Answer made his Delta debut Oct. 10, winning a first-level allowance. He proceeded to capture an optional $20,000 claiming race at the track Oct. 25, the $100,000 Delta Downs Mile on Nov. 19, then an optional $15,000 claiming race Dec. 20. “He’s running good at Delta and we’ll keep him there for another start,” trainer Robertino Diodoro said. Last meet, Mocito Rojo won both the Delta Mile and Owner Appreciation Cup. A Thousand Reasons might stretch A Thousand Reasons has mastered the five-furlong trip at Delta Downs, winning for the fourth time at the track’s lone one-turn distance offering in last Friday’s $65,000 Orleans. She broke on top in the sprint for fillies and mares, set an uncontested pace, and went on to a 4 3/4-length win for owner Maggi Moss. A Thousand Reasons earned a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 86. “She’s an exceptionally quick horse from the gate, and I thought she really used that,” trainer Tom Amoss said. “She really took advantage of her speed and separated from the group early.” Amoss said the next move could be a test at six furlongs. “I think there’s a big part of us that wants to see if she’ll go a little further in distance,” he said. A Thousand Reasons is a flashy 4-year-old chestnut daughter of Munnings, with her hind end “socks” splashing up past her hocks. She is now 4 for 6. and was making her stakes debut in the Orleans. Flat Lucky won last Saturday’s $65,000 Sam’s Town, cutting back from two turns for the five-eighths feature. Tim Thornton was aboard for Heads Up Racing and trainer Robertino Diodoro. “I thought it was a great ride by Thornton,” Diodoro said. “The horse has been doing really well. I thought the race might be a little too short for him, but Tim made up for that by giving him a great ride and staying on the fence.” The Sam’s Town was the second straight win at the meet for Flat Lucky. “We’ll probably just keep him at Delta for another start,” Diodoro said. Sky Promise arrives Sky Promise, Canada’s champion 3-year-old male of 2018, is settled in at Sam Houston, according to trainer Robertino Diodoro. A multiple stakes winner, Sky Promise is part of a 24-horse stable. It’s the first time Diodoro has had a division at Sam Houston. “I really like it,” Diodoro said. “I’ve went there for training. This past weekend was my first time there for live racing ever. I was impressed with just how accommodating and friendly everyone was.” ◗ Stave, runner-up in the Blushing K. D. last month at Fair Grounds, is a candidate for the $75,000 Jersey Lily Turf on Jan. 26 at Sam Houston, trainer Larry Jones said Wednesday. The race is on the undercard of the Grade 3, $300,000 Houston Ladies Classic, which is being targeted by Jones trainee Street Band. ◗ Lizzy’s Star will make her two-turn debut in Friday night’s second race at Delta, an allowance for 3-year-old fillies bred in Louisiana. The daughter of Star Guitar is coming off a runner-up finish in a division of the Louisiana Futurity at Fair Grounds.
