Grade 2 winner Slammed is getting some time off and will resume training next year with a goal of making a return trip to the Breeders’ Cup, trainer Todd Fincher said. Slammed last raced in the BC Filly and Mare Sprint on Nov. 5 at Keeneland and finished an uncharacteristic 12th after setting a quick, contested pace. Following the race, a foot abscess revealed itself, according to Fincher. “She had an abscess bust out of her foot,” he said last week. “It was after the race. Obviously, it had been brewing in there. “We're going to give her three, four months and make another run next year. Hopefully, we’ll get back to the Breeders’ Cup.” Santa Anita will be the Breeders' Cup host site in 2023 and Slammed spent some time in Southern California this year. She won an allowance sprint at Del Mar in July and came back and was second by a half-length in the track’s Grade 3 Rancho Bernardo.   :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match and FREE Formulator PPs! Following the start, her connections made the New Mexico-bred eligible for the BC for the remainder of her career, with a payment of $200,000. Slammed, who is a 4-year-old daughter of Marking, has won 9 of 13 starts and has earned more than $550,000. Bred by Fincher and Brad King, she races for King, Stan Kirby, Suzanne Kirby and Barbara Coleman. Slammed was one of two BC starters for Fincher earlier this month. Senor Buscador, winner of the Grade 3 Ack Ack at Churchill Downs, ran in the BC Dirt Mile. He finished eighth and was found to have bled, Fincher said. “It just didn’t line up very good for us,” Fincher said of the barn’s BC. Senor Buscador is 4 for 8 with career earnings of nearly $400,000 for owner Joe Peacock Jr. Fincher said his stable will be based this winter at Sunland Park. New Mexico is home and it is where he is currently developing a number of young racing prospects for next year.  :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
