Jockey Ryan Moore, the most high-profile rider in the world, has been fined $20,800 and suspended one day after losing an appeal of a ruling originally issued on Breeders’ Cup weekend last November, according to a decision published by Santa Anita stewards last weekend. Moore was originally sanctioned for a whip violation aboard Auguste Rodin in the $4 million BC Turf on Nov. 4, the nation’s richest turf race. Auguste Rodin closed along the inside in the stretch to win by three-quarters of a length over Up to the Mark. Moore was cited for striking Auguste Rodin seven times, once over the permitted limit. The decision was unsuccessfully appealed to the Horseracing and Integrity and Safety Authority, the recent ruling stated. The fine represents 1 percent of the winner’s share of $2,080,000. Moore is suspended on Sunday. Moore is scheduled to ride in Qatar on Saturday in the $2.5 million Amir’s Trophy aboard Point Lonsdale for the Coolmore syndicate and trainer Aidan O’Brien. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
