With just two days left at the 2022 Emerald Downs meet, entries were brisk Wednesday morning and 11 races were carded for Saturday. Post time for the first race is 2:15 p.m Pacific. Trainer Jorge Rosales entered five horses and is assured of winning his first title at any track when the meet is completed Sunday. “It’s very exciting and it has a lot to do with the good team we have at the barn,” Rosales said. :: DRF Bets members get FREE DRF Past Performances - Formulator or Classic. The following year he finished third in the standings while compiling a 16-13-14 record from 66 starts. Since 2018, he has won 122 races from 497 starters at Emerald, including 36 winners at the current meet, well clear of Blaine Wright, who is second in the standings with 29. “It really helps that we have better horses this year,” Rosales said. Quite a few of the horses shipped in from Golden Gate Fields, where they were stabled with trainer Jonathan Wong. “We have a good connection with Jonathan, and he seems to know which horses will run better on this surface than on Tapeta,” Rosales said. “We communicate a lot, and it has worked out very well for everyone.” Rosales will have a short stopover in California before heading to Turf Paradise in Phoenix for the winter. It will be his first time racing at Turf Paradise on a full-time basis. “I am taking 10 horses to Fresno and then off to Phoenix,” he said. “Looking forward to be back here next year.” The Big Fresno Fair meet goes from Oct. 7-16. Good spot for Gold Crusher Saturday’s feature is a $20,000 claimer or $25,000 for Washington-breds. The 5 1/2 -furlong dash drew eight horses and goes as race 10. It is a wide-open event with no obvious favorite. Emerald’s all-time leading trainer, Frank Lucarelli, has a big shot with Gold Crusher, who is making his first start at the meet. A 5-year-old Washington-bred gelding by Harbor the Gold, Gold Crusher is coming off a runner-up finish in a $15,000 starter race with a $30,000 claiming option on March 19 at Sam Houston. Gold Crusher won the 2020 Muckleshoot Derby at Emerald. He is capable of running a big race coming off the bench and was on his toes when he fired bullets in half-mile works on Sept. 4 and Sept. 11. He will break from post 5 with Kevin Orozco up. Gold Crusher likes to be involved early, and with other speed in the field, the race could set up nicely for Stand To. Also a 5-year-old gelding by Harbor the Gold, Stand To is trained by Rigoberto Velasquez, who has the distinction of being leading trainer for the final racing season at Portland Meadows, which closed for good following the 2018-19 meet. Stand To is coming off a runner-up finish going 6 1/2 furlongs at this level Sept. 9. He can stalk, and could get the right kind of trip with Jake Samuels riding.
