Rivers Run Deep will try to remain unbeaten against statebred stakes company in the $75,000 Daniel Stearns Cleveland Gold Cup for 3-year-olds at ThistleDown Saturday. In his two statebred stakes attempts, Rivers Run Deep romped at Belterra Park by a combined 22 3/4 lengths. Trained by Cody Autrey, Rivers Run Deep won the Tall Stacks May 8 going 6 1/2 furlongs by 12 3/4 lengths. In his last out, June 1, Rivers Run Deep won the Green Carpet by 10 lengths. A son of Ready’s Image, Rivers Run Deep led from start to finish in the 1 1/16-mile Green Carpet, and it looks like the additional sixteenth of a mile of the 1 1/8-mile Cleveland Gold Cup should be no problem. Although  there is an abundance of speed in the Gold Cup, Rivers Run Deep came from just off the pace in the Tall Stacks and looks versatile enough to handle any pace scenario. His 86 Beyer Figure earned earlier in the year at Oaklawn Park is almost 20 points higher than the high Beyer for the rest of the field. Rivers Run Deep has a pair of bullet works at the Thoroughbred Training Center in Lexington, Ky., since his last out. Jareth Loveberry retains the mount. Needmore Flattery is the only filly in the field of seven, but her bankroll of over $218,000 is tops in the race. Trained by Tim Hamm, Needmore Flattery has two Ohio-bred stakes this year as well, winning the Royal North at Beulah Park April 5 and the Tomboy at Belterra Park May 18. The Tomboy was at 1 1/16 miles and gave the daughter of Flattery her second win in as many attempts going two turns. Irwin Rosendo Jr. retains the mount. The others in the field are Easy Bling, Ridge Defense, Lime and Tequila, Farmer Steve, and Dr. Advo Cat
