OCEANPORT, N.J. – Ribo Bobo bested Partyallnightlong when they squared off in the Decathlon Stakes on opening day at Monmouth Park. The rematch comes in the $75,000 Mr. Prospector Stakes, the Sunday feature. Ribo Bobo battled every step of the Decathlon, eventually prevailing by 1 1/2 lengths. It was his 10th win in the last 12 races since being reclaimed by trainer Jason Servis and Mr Amore Stable for only $6,250. Partyallnightlong, one of the leading New Jersey-bred handicap runners, lost all shot at the Decathlon break. He bobbled and lost a shoe, finishing fifth. Partyallnightlong, a 7-year-old with an 8-0-1 mark in 13 Monmouth starts, bounced back to win the John J. Reilly Handicap for statebreds May 31. The rematch in the six-furlong Mr. Prospector was made possible by the Calder-Gulfstream Park dates controversy. After the Decathlon, Servis was pointing Ribo Bobo toward Calder’s Summit of Speed on July 5. When those stakes were canceled, the race here became the fallback option. “We were all set to go to Florida,” Servis said. “We were trying to get a plane. I don’t know if the cancellation was a big surprise. We were hearing rumors. I was feeling really good because this horse has won five at Calder, and that’s not an easy track. Some horses don’t handle it.” Ribo Bobo can handle most tracks. The 6-year-old Florida-bred is 2 for 2 at Monmouth, having captured the Icecapade Stakes here last September. Usual pilot Paco Lopez will be aboard as they break from the rail. DRF FORMULATOR FACT: No. 1 Ribo Bobo. Broome said that spot gives him a tactical advantage. “Jason is stuck on the rail, so I like that,” Broome said. “We get to stalk him. Hopefully, we get a clean break because this horse will do whatever you want. He’ll sit off, or he’ll go. So, if someone else wants to do the dirty work with Ribo Bobo, great. If not, then we will.” With Lopez committed to ride Ribo Bobo, Julian Pimentel picks up the mount on Partyallnightlong. David Jacobson, the meet’s leading trainer, sends out the uncoupled duo of Cherokee Artist and Candyman E, who ran sixth in the Decathlon. The Jacobson duo has combined for $1,410,598 in career earnings. Evolution Rocks and Il Villano complete the field.
