Precise Timing lived up to the pre-race hype by delivering a 2 3/4-length victory in the $50,000 Angie C Stakes at Emerald Downs on Saturday, July 6.  The Kay Cooper trainee broke sharply and quickly assumed command with Coconut Dreams just behind and to her outside through an opening quarter in 21.62. The two remained in tandem through 4 furlongs in 44.64 before Precise Timing edged away into the stretch,  eventually stopping the clock in 1:03.63 for 5 1/2 furlongs over a fast strip. Coconut Dreams was second and the David Martinez trainee was 1 3/4 lengths clear of debuting Saleen G T, who was third.  The winner, owned by Blue Ribbon Racing .23, was piloted by Kevin Orozco and paid $4.78 for a $2 win ticket. A daughter of Dialed In, Precise Timing had been turning heads in the mornings over the past several weeks. Former jockey Bryson Cooper, husband of trainer Kay, summarized during the post-race ceremony: "When she worked that 22-flat we said 'whoa, gotta slow her down a little bit.'  So we did, and she proved what she could do today". Cooper's reference was to a June 17 blowout which was among the fastest official workouts at the distance ever recorded at Emerald Downs. The next race for 2-year-old fillies on the stakes schedule is the August 3 WTBOA Lassies Stakes. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
