ETOBICOKE, Ontario – There’s not a stakes on Sunday at Woodbine, but the featured eighth race reads like an added-money event and is headed by 2023 King’s Plate victor Paramount Prince. A two-time Canadian champion, Paramount Prince figures to be the controlling speed in the 1 1/16-mile conditioned allowance with an $80,000 claiming option. Paramount Prince’s lone win in five starts this year came at this level on Oct. 19. He set soft fractions on a live rail en route to a four-length score over Loose Wire and Dresden Row, who came right back to take the Grade 3 Autumn over a quality field. Paramount Prince went too fast on the lead most recently in the 1 1/8-mile Autumn and folded in the stretch to finish a well-beaten ninth. He wound up third in all three of his other outings at the meet, including a pair of Grade 3 stakes. Patrick Husbands regains the mount on Paramount Prince for Mark Casse, who trains the popular 5-year-old for the partnership of Gary Barber and Michael Langlois. Completing the field on the 10-race card are Stanley House, War Bomber, Ron’s Gizmo, War Court, and Map’s a Breeze. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! Stanley House won his first stakes going 1 1/4 miles on the main turf in the Aug. 2 Niagara, during which he inherited the lead and never looked back under Leo Salles. He folded in the stretch after an inside stalking trip to end up seventh last out on Sept. 13 in the Grade 1 Woodbine Mile. Trainer Mike DePaulo said Stanley House missed a start after the Woodbine Mile, which was won by the future Breeders’ Cup Mile victor Notable Speech. “He blew a shoe and his foot bothered him for a little while,” DePaulo said. “This was the next spot. He’s doing good. I expect him to run well.” War Bomber could hound Paramount Prince early if his connections opt for an aggressive approach. The two-time graded stakes winner went winless in six outings last year, during which he lost two Grade 2 turf stakes in a photo. War Bomber returned from an 11-month layoff on Oct. 19 to finish third going seven furlongs. He won his next and most recent start in another seven-furlong conditioned allowance by disqualification, a race he would have won outright had he not been impeded in deep stretch. Apprentice Austin Adams inherits the mount on the Norm McKnight-trained War Bomber from Rafael Hernandez, who’s sticking with Ron’s Gizmo. Hernandez rode Ron’s Gizmo to victory in the restricted Steady Growth Stakes last December. The 8-year-old won his first two starts this year at Sunday’s level early in the summer and has been idle since a non-threatening sixth in the Niagara. He could be prepping for this year’s Steady Growth on Dec. 14. Ron Sadler trains Ron’s Gizmo and War Court, who has been sidelined since landing an Aug. 2 conditioned allowance. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
