BALTIMORE – Post positions drawn Sunday for Friday’s Grade 2, $300,000 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes at Pimlico give no runner in the field of nine 3-year-old fillies a distinct advantage. The Black-Eyed Susan will be one of three graded stakes on the 14-race Friday card at Pimlico, along with the Grade 3 Miss Preakness for 3-year-old fillies at six furlongs and the Grade 3 Pimlico Special for 3-year-olds and up at 1 3/16 miles. All three graded stakes will be run on dirt, but two of the three ungraded stakes for 3-year-olds and up are scheduled for the turf – the $125,000 Hilltop at one mile and the $100,000 The Very One for fillies and mares at five furlongs. The $125,000 Allaire duPont Distaff for fillies and mares will be run at 1 1/8 miles on dirt.  Runnin N Gunnin, the distant third-place finisher in the Grade 2 Fantasy last time out, will break from post 4 in the Black-Eyed Susan for trainer Steve Asmussen. The filly improved dramatically to finish in the money in her stakes debut. Two runners she faced that day have delivered better performances since and also are entered at Pimlico on Friday. Princess Aliyah, trained by D. Wayne Lukas, drew post 2, while Kinzie Queen, trained by Greg Compton, will run from post 5.  :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! Reply, trained by Brittany Russell, will make her third career start after finishing just behind stablemate Complexity Jane in the Weber City Miss at Laurel. Moon Cache, an improving filly for trainer Mike Gorham, nearly caught Russell’s pair that day but had to settle for third.  From the rail out, the Black-Eyed Susan field (with riders) consists of Liam in the Dust (John Velazquez), Princess Aliyah (Nik Juarez), Margie’s Intention (Flavien Prat), Runnin N Gunnin (Jose Ortiz), Kinzie Queen (Junior Alvarado), Paris Lily (Joel Rosario), Reply (Irad Ortiz Jr.), Amarth (Luis Saez), and Moon Cache (Raul Mena).  Vodka With a Twist, runner-up in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, will break from post 12 in a 13-horse field for the Miss Preakness. Trainer Phil D’Amato is cutting the West Coast runner back to six furlongs after two disappointing finishes going longer, but she will have to navigate a challenging position out of the gate Friday.  Phileas Fogg, a 5-year-old gelding trained by Gustavo Rodriguez, could gain a massive advantage after drawing the rail in the Pimlico Special. The runaway winner of the Excelsior at Aqueduct settled off the pace last time out, but he will have a great chance to return to his front-running ways from post 1 at Pimlico.  :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
