Needmore Flattery took on the boys and won Saturday in the $75,000 Daniel Stearns Cleveland Gold Cup at ThistleDown. Trained by Tim Hamm, Needmore Flattery was kept back early in the field of seven Ohio-bred 3-year-olds. Jockey Irwin Rosendo Jr. moved his filly to the lead in upper stretch, and she fought to a three-quarter-length win over second-place finisher Farmer Steve. Heavy favorite Rivers Run Deep set quick early fractions and tired to third. The running time for 1 1/8 miles over a fast track was 1.52.42, and Needmore Flattery returned $10.80 to win.
