SHAKOPEE, Minn. – Native American and A M Milky Way, a pair of excellent 3-year-old sprinters, treated Canterbury Park fans to imperious displays in taking the $40,000 L'Etoile du Nord and the $40,000 Paul Bunyan, respectively, Saturday. Native American ($2.10), trained by Robertino Diodoro for breeders Mercedes Stables LLC, remained undefeated after four races with an unchallenged 7 3/4-length romp over four fillies. Jockey Jorge Carreno guided the Indian Charlie filly through six furlongs in 1:11.08. She collected $24,000 for her connections. Back at six furlongs after a failed route attempt May 30 in the Prairie Mile, the favored A M Milky Way ($5.00) dusted six foes by 5 1/4 lengths in the Paul Bunyan. Angled outside his rivals in the early going by jockey Hugo Sanchez, A M Milky Way glided to the front on the turn and extended his advantage thereafter. Trained by Karl Broberg for breeder David L. Davis, A M Milky Way, a Texas-bred Elusive Bluff gelding, covered six furlongs in 1:11.15 and earned $24,000.
