Mixo will try to get back on track when he runs in a $20,000 claimer that will serve as the feature race at Emerald Downs on Friday. Mixo, trained by Shelly Crowe, will appreciate the move back to a sprint after finishing fifth going a mile in a $10,000 starter race Aug. 26. It was just the second time in his 48-race career that Mixo went around two turns, his first route attempt coming in the $75,000 Gottstein Futurity in 2016 when he finished fourth going 1 1/16 miles. An 8-year-old Washington-bred gelding by Abraaj, Mixo went into his last race off back-to-back wins. He came from a stalking position in a $10,000 starter race July 1 and ran a similar race to edge Take Charge Deputy by a nose at this level July 29. In his latest race, he got squeezed back going into the first turn and, after contesting the pace, faded to finish well back. Mixo should get a nice trip from a forward position after he breaks from post 3 with Kevin Radke up.
