Endlessly, who overcame trouble to win his debut in a maiden race at a mile on turf at Del Mar on Sunday, is likely to have his second start in the Grade 3 Del Mar Juvenile Turf at the same distance Sept. 10, closing day of the track’s summer meeting. “It looks like the right spot,” trainer Michael McCarthy said on Wednesday. Ridden by Juan Hernandez, Endlessly raced in traffic in early stretch before rallying between rivals to win by 2 1/4 lengths for Amerman Racing. “I thought he ran to his training and he seems like a nice colt,” McCarthy said. “He did everything right in the morning and everything right in the afternoon.” :: DRF's 2023 Del Mar headquarters: Previews, past performances, picks, recaps, news, and more. Endlessly is by Oscar Performance, a multiple stakes winner for John and Jerry Amerman. Last Saturday, the European import Angiolleta won her American debut in a one-mile maiden race for 2-year-old fillies on turf.  Ridden by Antonio Fresu, Angiolleta closed from eighth in a field of 10 to win by a length in her third career start. Angiolleta was sixth and second in races in France in May and June. Trainer Doug O’Neill said Angioletta, who is by the Kingman stallion Calyx, will be pointed for the $100,000 Del Mar Juvenile Fillies Turf at a mile Sept. 9. Angioletta races for the partnership of Great Friends Stable, James Cahill, Mark Davis, and Ty Leatherman. McCarthy has another 2-year-old stakes prospect in the California-bred filly Pushiness, who is scheduled to start in Sunday’s $125,000 California Thoroughbred Breeders Association Stakes for 2-year-old statebred fillies at 5 1/2 furlongs. Owned by Mike Repole, Pushiness won her debut in a maiden race at five furlongs at Santa Anita on June 9 by 6 1/4 lengths, leading throughout. Juan Hernandez rode Pushiness in the maiden race, but is suspended for a routine riding violation this weekend. Umberto Rispoli will ride Pushiness, McCarthy said. The CTBA Stakes is one of four stakes on Saturday and Sunday at Del Mar. The weekend’s leading race is Saturday’s Grade 1 Clement Hirsch Stakes, a $400,000 race for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles on dirt. The winner receives a fees-paid berth to the Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Santa Anita on Nov. 4. McCarthy’s stable had a terrible incident of misfortune July 28 when the 5-year-old mare Nevisian Sunrise was euthanized as a result of an injury sustained after she unseated her rider during morning exercise, according to the California Horse Racing Board. Nevisian Sunrise was third in the restricted Osunitas Stakes at Del Mar on July 22 in her first start for McCarthy. On Saturday, Ghostem, a maiden race winner in 2022, was euthanized after sustaining an injury during a workout, according to the racing board. Ghostem was trained by George Papaprodromou. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
