Trainer Mike Maker and jockey Robby Albarado swept the two stakes at Indiana Grand Race Course on Wednesday, with General Jack winning the $204,600 Centaur and Quiet Force winning the $103,200 J. Kenneth Self Shelby County Boys and Girls Club. General Jack stalked the pace to the outside of the pacesetting Broadway Zen through the early going of the Centaur, a one-mile turf event for 3-year-olds. Albarado went to work at the top of the stretch, and General Jack quickly surged to a two-length lead. The margin of victory was three lengths. In only his third lifetime start and his first off his maiden win, Captain Dixie finished second, two lengths in front of Broadway Zen, who settled for third. The running time on the firm turf course was 1.37.13, and General Jack returned $5.40 to win. The $2 exacta returned $69. In the Shelby County, Quiet Force, a 4-year-old Dynaformer colt, was kept back off the pace early in the 1 1/16-mile turf race, settling into sixth place in the eight-horse field. Albarado asked Quiet Force for his best in the stretch, and he drew off to win by two lengths. Red Strike had a clear lead in the stretch but tired to finish second, three lengths in front of Quick Wit in third. The running time was 1.40.50, and Quiet Force returned $11 to win.
