OCEANPORT, N.J. – Majestic River is finally flowing in the right direction. She stepped up Saturday to win the $77,500 Lighthouse Stakes for fillies and mares at Monmouth Park. The 4-year-old, making only her seventh start, beat South Andros by two lengths. She is 2 for 2 at the meet, having posted a dominant allowance win last month. The A.P. Indy filly trained by Todd Pletcher was a $425,000 yearling purchase. She is finally making good on that potential with her first stakes victory. “It’s just about turning the corner now. She’s run two nice races,” said Anthony Sciametta, Pletcher’s Monmouth assistant. “She’s a nice filly.” Brenda’s Way, a 20-1 outsider, dictated the pace with Majestic River and jockey Eddie Castro in ideal stalking position. Majestic River made her move on the leader midway on the final turn as South Andros started picking off rivals with a sweeping bid from fifth. Majestic River was solidly in charge turning for home as South Andros kept coming while drifting extremely wide. “She felt strong the whole way, so I was very confident,” Castro said. “Around the turn, I moved for the lead, and she did the rest.” The time was 1:45.67 for the 1 1/16 miles on the fast track. She paid $6.60 to win as the second choice. Made Up was third followed by Brenda’s Way, Lady Chohiba (the 9-5 favorite), Winiliscious, and Firenze Feeling. ** There was a rare triple dead heat Friday at Monmouth – and nobody noticed! It was a triple-heater for fifth in the fifth race as Dance for Megan, Indian Chaser, and Veruska hit the wire together.
