Trials for the $150,000-added Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders Association Sales Futurity took place at Fair Grounds last Friday, which was opening day for the 12-program Quarter Horse meeting. The 350-yard final is slated for closing day, Sept. 5. Heza Louisiana Dash posted the fastest qualifying time of 17.331 seconds in winning the ninth of the 10 trials. The Kenny Roberts charge knocked off Louisiana Jambalaya, who posted the second-fastest time of 17.387 in winning the second heat of the afternoon. The 10th and final qualifying spot went to Coonascorona, whose lot was drawn randomly following the trials after he had run the same time of 17.600 as Hallowed. By virtue of his poor luck, Hallowed will be the first qualifier in the $30,000 Consolation, which will bring together the 11th through 20th qualifiers.
