CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Raging Smoke scored the biggest win of both her and trainer's careers when she went wire-to-wire to take the $150,000 Sugar Maple at Charles Town Saturday. Raging Smoke, disregarded at 35-1 in the seven-furlong race for fillies and mares, set the early pace while being pressed by even-money favorite Making Havoc. She drew clear on the second turn and went on to win by 1 1/4 lengths. Raging Smoke, based at Penn National with trainer Michael Salvaggio Jr., is now 7 for 21 in her career. Her biggest prior win had been the $50,000 New Star for Pennsylvania-breds at Penn National in 2014. Sweet On Smokey, unhurried early, made a bold move inside horses on the far turn and continued willingly to be second, three-quarters of a length ahead of 5-2 second choice Athena, who lodged her bid four wide in tandem with Sweet on Smokey. Making Havoc weakened to finish fifth. Raging Smoke paid $75.80 to win. She was timed in 1:25.66.
