Older Pennsylvania-bred horses will contest a pair of $75,000 stakes going a mile Sunday evening at Presque Isle Downs. The Northern Fling for fillies and mares (race 4) and the Leemat (race 6) are the co-features on an eight-race program. Lenape Rim won the 2013 running of the Northern Fling by a long neck. She has started her 6-year-old campaign with back-to-back victories. Trained by Michael Salvaggio, Lenape Rim won the Lyphard at Penn National in her first out May 30 going 1 1/16 miles over a soft turf course. In her last out, she won the one-mile local prep for the Northern Fling by a nose. The first four finishers from that June 24 race are part of Sunday’s 10-horse field, including a coupled entry. Augustin Stable sends out a coupled entry in the 4-year-old Cat’s Holiday and the 5-year-old Angel Terrace. Cat’s Holiday is trained by Graham Motion, and Angel Terrace is trained by Hall of Famer Jonathan Sheppard. Angel Terrace owns two wins and a second over the Presque Isle Tapeta surface in three lifetime starts. She has raced only once this season, finishing near the back in the Grade 3 Bewitch on turf at Keeneland on April 24. Cat’s Holiday shows three wins and a second locally and finished a closing second in her last, nosed out by Lenape Rim. Mario Pino was named to ride both halves of the entry. In the Leemat, Roadhog, who is 2 for 2 over the Presque Isle Tapeta, will seek a repeat. In addition to last year’s Leemat, he won the prep for this year’s edition June 24. The 7-year-old Roadhog, trained by Elizabeth Merryman, finished second in the Henry Clark on April 19 and then eighth in the Grade 2 Dixie in his other two starts this year, both at Pimlico. The Elkhorn Group sends out a coupled entry in Edge of Reality and Pitch N’ Roll. Trained by Ron Potts, Pitch N’ Roll finished second in last month’s local prep for the Leemat. The 4-year-old Pitch N’ Roll has won 5 of 8 local starts. Edge of Reality is trained by Motion and is winless in one start this year. Nine horses, including two entries, are entered in the Leemat.
