A field of 1,458 competed in a special contest sponsored by Woodbine for Queen’s Plate Day. Ki Kim came out best in the six-race event, tallying a total of $69.60. Kim, who won $500 in DRF Tournaments site credit, nearly ran the table, cashing in five of the six races. The only race Kim missed was the Plate itself. James Schissler did catch Wonder Gadot, the Plate winner, and was drawing live for the win heading to the last race. But when he and Kim both picked Silent Jimmie in the 11th race, Schissler was blocked for the win. His total of $68.70 was still good enough to take home $300 in site credit. Third place was a tie between Philip McNamara and Mark Bider, who finished with $64.70. They each get $25 in credit. It might not sound like all that much, but it’s enough to start on a path to one of the bigger tournaments currently being offered on DRFT like the Saratoga Betting Challenges, the Del Mar Challenge, or the Keeneland Challenge. Speaking of Keeneland, this weekend’s biggest winner on DRFT was John Caro, who scored $82.10 in a 10-race slate that included races from Woodbine, Belmont, Monmouth, and Gulfstream. He cashed four times with the significant ones being Stormy Embrace ($45.80 win-place combined) in Gulfstream’s 12th and Neoclassic ($27) in Belmont’s ninth. Caro won his $3,000 seat to Keeneland plus $500 in travel. Contest action returns to DRFT on Wednesday, July 4, Independence Day. There is a free contest where players can start their journeys to the World Championship of Handicapping, DRF’s big money online championship. Next weekend’s featured game is a Grade 1 qualifier for the WCH. Players put up $580 and one in 10 will win their $5,000 buy-ins to the no-takeout finals. There will be round-one feeders to Saturday’s contest every day, with a $95 buy-in. From those, one in seven entries will win their $580 entry fees. An announcement is expected about the date of next year’s WCH event sometime this summer. For more information about all the games happening this week, go to tournaments.drf.com.
