Juveniles featured on first Friday card of meet

OCEANPORT, N.J. – Monmouth Park adds Fridays to its schedule this week. The card features the first 2-year-old races of the New Jersey season.

In race 1, seven colts and geldings will sprint 4 1/2 furlongs. The only horse to have raced in the field is Truly a Moon Shot, the likely favorite for trainer Kelly Breen.

Truly a Moon Shot, a $75,000 Keeneland September yearling purchase, showed good speed in a Belmont Park maiden race in the mud May 5. He finished third to 3-5 Tale of Two, a debut runner for Mark Casse.

Race 4, also at 4 1/2 furlongs, has lured nine 2-year-old fillies. Breen's runner, Day by Day, who finished second in a Gulfstream Park maiden race April 28, figures to be well bet, as does the Todd Pletcher first-timer Nonna Mela, a $310,000 Kenneland September yearling buy.
