OPELOUSAS, La. – Last Wednesday marked the long-awaited return of jockey C.J. McMahon. After serving a lengthy suspension for being the aggressor in an altercation at Delta this year, McMahon wasted little time in returning to the winner’s circle, taking the evening’s eighth race at Evangeline Downs with longshot Eyejaykay ($69.80). McMahon, 20, burst onto the riding scene in 2011, winning 121 races from 810 mounts, with earnings of more than $2.1 million for the year. He is the son of veteran Quarter Horse jockey Charles McMahon and longtime Evangeline racing official Sandra McMahon. The now-retired Mark Guidry is representing McMahon, and the winner of more than 5,200 career races has been a positive influence on the young McMahon. “Having Mark as an agent has really been helpful,” McMahon said last week, “not only in giving advice as far as riding goes, but also advice about life.”
