ALTOONA, Iowa – Jessica's Star, the 2014 Iowa Derby winner, ran his local record to 3 for 3 with a solid effort to take Monday's featured $75,000 Jim Rasmussen Memorial, a 1 1/16-mile stakes, by a length. Confidently handled by his new pilot, Alex Canchari, the favored Jessica's Star ($6.60) laid close to Den's Legacy's soft pace before asserting himself turning for home. Lahshad, ridden by the talented Chicago-based apprentice Mitchell Murrill, came out on top in a four-horse battle for second,  a half-length ahead of Smack Smack. Trained by Michael Stidham, Jessica's Star likely will point to the meet's signature race, the Grade 3, $300,000 Prairie Meadows Cornhusker Handicap on June 27. Canchari, who is off to an excellent 23-for-96 start to the meet, is based here for the first time. Owned by Mark Breen, Jessica's Star, a 4-year-old Magna Graduate gelding, earned $45,000 for his Rasmussen win. Diva’s Diamond wins Wild Rose Diva's Diamond ($5.20), wearing blinkers for the first time since November 2012, produced a sharp effort to wear down Ghost Locket for a 3 1/4-length win in Monday's $50,000 Wild Rose. Angled out early from the inside post by her new rider, Ramon Vazquez, the Karl Broberg-trained Diva's Diamond comfortably stalked Ghost Locket's tepid pace before pouncing at the furlong marker. Ghost Locket dug in gamely to fend off Glorys Last Chance by a head for second. Following a subpar May 7 effort when third behind Ghost Locket in an allowance route, Diva's Diamond returned to form similar to that of last June's Iowa Distaff victory and her second behind champion Untapable in Oaklawn's Grade 1 Apple Blossom on April 10. She covered 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.91. Diva's Diamond, a 6-year-old Crafty Shaw mare, collected $30,000 for owner Jerry Namy.
