Indiana Grand Racecourse breaks up the week with a pair of turf stakes for female horses Wednesday, with the $200,000 Indiana Grand for 3-year-old fillies and the $100,000 Girls of Shelbyville Shelby County for fillies and mares. The Indiana Grand drew a full field of 12 going a mile on the turf course. Kiss to Remember will be making her first attempt at two turns. Trained by Tom Amoss, she is a perfect 1 for 1 on the turf. Kiss Moon is graded stakes place but will be looking for her first turf win. She is trained by David Vance. The speedy Nesso is making her second start off a layoff for trainer Sandino Hernandez Jr. She led the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf to the top of the stretch last year. Honey Hues and Malibu Yankee will each be looking for herthird consecutive win at 1 1/16 miles in turf in the Girls of Shelbyville Shelby County. Indiana Grand key contenders Kiss to Remember (Last 3 Beyers: 83-43-80) * Owned by Maggi Moss, Kiss to Remember won her only turf attempt, which came at the Fair Grounds Feb. 1 going 5 1/2 furlongs. * Won her last race, which came going seven furlongs at Churchill Downs June 22 against older horses. * Earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 83 last out, the highest last-race Beyer of any of the 12 entrants. * Has yet to run two turns but her Tomlinson Figure of 334 for the distance suggests it should be no problem for her. * Jeremy Rose will ride, and the Rose-Amoss combo has won at 47 percent the last two years in 45 attempts. Kiss Moon (Last 3 Beyers 82-55-91) * Kiss Moon finished fourth and was moved up to third after trouble in the stretch in the Grade 3 Regret at Churchill Downs in her last out June 14. She was beaten 1 1/2 lengths after being bumped and steadied in the stretch. * The turn back in distance looks to be in her favor. * Finished fourth in the Grade 3 Honeybee and second in the Grade 2 Fantasy at Oaklawn Park in the spring. She earned the race high Beyer of 91 in the Fantasy. * Had a bullet work at Churchill last Wednesday. Nesso (Last 3 Beyers: 76-67-70) * Finished second in her last out, her first off a layoff, which came in the $75,000 Cash Run at Gulfstream Park. * Finished second in the Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar and the Surfer Girl at Santa Anita last fall before setting the pace to upper stretch in the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf. She faded to 10th late, beaten 7 1/2 lengths. Girls of Shelbyville Shelby County key contenders Honey Hues (Last 3 Beyers: 87-87-66) * Has won her last two at 1 1/16 miles on the turf - the Grade 3 Mint Julep at Churchill June 7 and the $50,000 Ellis Park Turf July 5. * Has won 4 of 8 on the turf and 2 of 4 at this distance. Malibu Yankee (Last 3 Beyers: 84-78-79) * Won an optional allowance race at Arlington Park two starts ago May 10. * In her last out she won the $100,000 Opelousas at Evangeline Downs June 21. * Amoss-Rose trainer-jockey combo wins at 47 percent.
