ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Jockey Patrick Husbands swept both stakes during the Saturday afternoon card at Woodbine, guiding Owlette and Jean Elizabeth to front-running scores in the Victorian Queen and Sweet Briar Too Stakes, respectively. In the Victorian Queen, Owlette ($4.10) broke sharply from post two and went straight to the front. She had to deal with pressure from Victorian Moon to her outside, but put that rival away through opening fractions of 22.24 seconds for the opening quarter and 45.51 seconds for the opening half-mile. Wake Up Maggie made a move to get into position through the turn, but Owlette was always able to keep her at bay, crossing the line 2 1/2 lengths in front in 1:10.10 for six furlongs on Tapeta. She’s a Dream was third. “I know I got a little pressure on the outside, you know, as a little rabbit, but she was just playing with them down the back,” Husbands said. Owlette has now won three consecutive starts at Woodbine, including a pair of stakes, for trainer Wesley Ward and owner Ten Broeck Farm. In the Sweet Briar Too, Husbands and Jean Elizabeth ($10) were able to strike the lead from the outside, but were quickly joined by Sister Peacock and jockey Jesse Campbell. Jean Elizabeth and Sister Peacock battled on the front end throughout the race, with Jean Elizabeth proving best as she pulled away in the stretch to win by two lengths. She crossed the line in 1:15.64 for 6 1/2 furlongs on Tapeta. The favorite, Special Relativity, was third. “Both of them are classy fillies and both of them are speed horses. So, when the gates flew open, Jesse looked at me, I looked at Jesse, and we just did what we had to do,” Husbands said. For Jean Elizabeth, it was her second stakes win in her last three starts, and third added-money victory overall for trainer Larry Rivelli, who owns the  filly along with Richard Ravin and Patricia’s Hope LLC.  With the two stakes wins on the day, Husbands has now recorded a meet-leading 15 stakes wins for the season.
