Bettors will have to roll the dice on debuting Precise Timing in the $50,000 Angie C. Stakes at Emerald Downs on Saturday. The race features seven 2-year-old fillies who have started a combined four times. The Angie C. is the first stakes of the meet for juvenile fillies. The group includes a single previous winner in Her Blind Side, who prevailed by a neck in a $15,000 maiden-claiming event on June 22. Her Blind Side is a Candice Cryderman trainee who earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 15 in her debut. The quartet who raced previously are perceived to have a decided advantage over those who lack racing experience. Others with a single race include debut runner-up Company Girl, trained by Jose Navarro with Leslie Mawing riding. Coconut Dreams will add blinkers on Saturday after finishing fourth, one length behind Company Girl on June 22. Coconut Dreams is trained by David Martinez with Javier Matias named to ride. Stellzone is a Frank Lucarelli trainee who was fifth in her debut some 2 3/4 lengths behind Coconut Dreams. The conditioner has named Karlo Lopez to ride. The most intriguing debuter in the Angie C. Field is Precise Timing, a Kay Cooper trainee with Kevin Orozco accepting the call. A son of debut-winning Dialed In, Precise Timing is from the speedy dam Peaceful Nation, who finished third in her career bow. The second dam of Precise Timing is noted local mare Peaceful Wings, who produced 16 winning offspring. :: Bet the races with a $200 First Deposit Match + FREE All Access PPs! Obviously she can be very quick, especially out of the gate. I know she’s very well schooled.” On June 17, Precise Timing worked two furlongs in 22 flat. On Sunday, Precise Timing worked five furlongs in 59 from the gate. She should be on edge for her debut. Two additional debut runners, each from the barn of Lucarelli, are Saleen G T and Violet Kitten. The dam of Violet Kitten didn’t have very much early speed and was best at longer distances. Her prior offspring also didn’t have much early foot. Saleen G T is from the first crop by Longacres Mile winner Barkley, whose only prior starter was the aforementioned Company Girl. The dam of Saleen G T was a debut winner who won 12 races and all of her prior offspring were speedy. Races filled with 2-year-olds are usually a lot of fun to watch but those needing to get past in multi-race betting arrangements should probably use a wide net. Those needing to take a stand should lean toward Precise Timing. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
