Greek Geek won the $48,500 Alberta Breeders’ Handicap for the second year in a row for trainer Tim Rycroft at Century Mile Saturday. He paid $4.10 for his 1 1/4-length victory over Smart Play in the 1 1/16 miles for 3-year-olds and up. The Breeders’ was one of seven stakes races restricted to Alberta-breds on the 12-race Alberta Breeders’ Fall Classic Day card. With Enrique Gonzalez aboard, Greek Geek settled early while Regal Max and Smarty River dueled through a half-mile in a quick 45.86 seconds. He took over the lead just past the six-furlong call and was immediately collared by Smart Play. They battled the rest of the way with Greek Geek edging clear late. Smart Play, last early, looked like he was going to blow by Greek Geek on the turn, but could not sustain his bid. Theshack finished third, 9 1/2 lengths behind Smart Play. The 4-year-old daughter of Mank is trained by Jim Brown and races for Mohamad Khan. She was ridden by Dane Nelson No time was available due to a timer malfunction. Big Hug paid $3.30 for her win over Bootiful Rose in the $49,500 Sturgeon River for 2-year-old fillies. With Rafael Zenteno Jr. riding for trainer Rick Hedge, the daughter of Mr. Big posted a final time of 1:11.34 in the six-furlong dash. She is owned by Empire Equestrian and Kerredge Farm. Stevie Wonder rallied to win the $50,000 Alberta Oaks over Lilbitspic.  She paid $7.30 and posted a final time of 1:44.69 in the 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-old fillies. Mudinator, trained by Monica Russell and ridden by Gonzalez, paid $4.50 for his 2 1/4-length victory over Lil Zapper in the Alberta Premier’s Futurity. The son of Cape Canaveral races for KRT Stables. The final time for the six-furlong race was 1:11.88. Rycroft won the $50,500 Beaufort with Wildcat Willy, $18.70, who romped in the 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-olds by 4 3/4 lengths over Above and Beyond. He was ridden by Jose Asencio. He paid $18.70 and posted a final time of 1:43.39. The son of Wildcat Red races for Pink Cloud Racing. The Deanna Walper-trained Solo Ring paid $6.60 for his win over Common Knowledge in the Red Diamond Express for 3-year-olds and up.
